FLORENCE A. COPPENS Florence A. Coppens, 75, of Mayflower Road, South Bend, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday in Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton. She was bom October 16, 1916, in Winamac and was a lifelong area resident. On April 19, 1946, in South Bend, as Florence Dennis Heim, she married Charles Coppens. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Rizek, of Walkerton; two sons, Jim Coppens, of Lakeville and Phillip D. Heim, of Fredricksburg, Virginia; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Eggert, of Knox, Betty Sipe, of Kouts, and Donna Lou Braden, of Monticello, Ind.; and three brothers, Gilbert Dennis, Star City, George Dennis, Lafayette, and John Dennis, of Santee, California. Services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Southside Christian Church, South Bend. Burial will be in Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 • 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Mrs. Coppens was a member of the Southside Christian Church and served as an elder and Sunday School teacher and was a volunteer for Goodwill Industries. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. JOHN M. KRICK John M. Krick, 63, of 505 Georgia Street, Walkerton, died at 5:10 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born July 13, 1929, in North Liberty and was an area resident all his life. On September 15, 1951, in Walkerton, he married Louise Wolfenburger, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Kris Krick, of Walkerton; a grandson; five sisters, Harriett Klinedinst, Marguerite Bierly, Muriel Roberts and De De Fejes, all of Walkerton, and Betty Schrader, of South Bend; and two brothers, Delbert Krick, of Walkerton, and Tim Krick, of Hamlet. He was preceded in death by a brother. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Krick was a self-employed electrician. He was a member of Walkerton American Legion Post 189 and North Liberty Veterans of Foreign Wars 1954 and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. JOHN C. DREESSEN, SR. John C. Dreessen, Sr., 81, of 5501 E. County Road 1000 S, Hamlet, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in his home. He was born April 2, 1911, in Kuden Holstein, Germany, and had lived in Hamlet since 1930. On March 2, 1936, in LaPorte, he married Ruth Louise Jensen, who survives. Mr. Dreessen was a retired farmer. Also surviving are three sons, Carl, of Walkerton, John C., Jr., and Gerald, both of Hamlet; 10 grandchildren; a great-grand-daughter; a sister, Elsie Behmes, of Hamburg, Germany; and a half brother, Karl, of Munich, Germany. A daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the NusbaumElkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Dreessen was a member of the Tracy United Methodist Church and the LaPorte County Farm Bureau. BERNARD V. HUDAK Bernard V. Hudak, 77, of 28881 New Road, North Liberty, died at 11:02 p.m. Wednesday in his home. He was born February 12, 1915, in South Bend and lived in the North Liberty area for 32 years. On June 18, 1949, in Bondsville, Mass., he married Anne Wadas, who survives. Mr. Hudak retired in 1970 from the Bendix Corp.

Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy Shafer, of North Liberty; three sons, David, of Annandale, Virginia, Gregory, of Cedar Rapids, lowa, and Michael, of Valparaiso; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Chester, of Mishawaka. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, South Bend. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Hudak was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Walkerton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Hunt, of Indianapolis, are the parents of a daughter, Kelly Ann, bom on September 15th. She weighed seven pounds and fourteen ounces. She has two sisters, Christine and Allison Riggle. Maternal grandmother is Betty Farnell, of El Segunds, California. Maternal great-grandmother is Helen Wooby, of San Gemente, California. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller, of North tyHOLY CROSS PARKVIEW HOSPITAL AUXILIARY CHICKEN BARBECUE The 13th annual chicken barbecue dinner sponsored by the HolyCross Parkview Hospital Auxiliary will be Saturday, September 26, 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Plymouth High School cafetorium. A full dinner, including Nelson’s Golden Gio Chicken, cole slaw, applesauce, baked beans, bread, pie or cake, and beverage, will be served. Dinner will be served in the cafeteria. Carry-outs will be available. The cost is $4.75 for adults, $3.00 for children. Tickets may be purchased from any Auxiliary member or will be available at the door. Profits from the barbecue will be given to the hospital to help purchase new equipment for the hospital. BLISSVILLE CHURCH TO CELEBRATE HOMECOMING The Blissville Church of the Brethren is celebrating Homecoming Sunday on September 27. Times of services are, Sunday School, 9-25 a.m.; Morning Worship, 10:30 a.m.; Dinner, 12:00 noon; and Afternoon Service. 1:00 p.m. The Marshall County Men of Music will sing at both morning and afternoon services. A time for sharing from former pastors and friends will complete the day. If you want to see a short winter, borrow some money that’s due in the spring.
