WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The Walkerton Town Council met at 7:00 p.m. on September 8, 1992 with the following members present: Gene Reese, Gordon Hartsell, Cheryl Rizek, Walter Heil and Leonard Jaske. Attorney James Hayes and clerk-treasurer Judy Hiler were also present. The minutes were approved as read. The Council reviewed the monthly Police Report and noted that the accumulated time hours are down. This report and the Work Order Report were accepted by the Council. John Winne, Superior Waste, was in to discuss a recent price increase to the Town. This increase is due to the fact that the St. Joseph County Solid Waste Management Board has approved an additional $1.50 per ton charge on every ton of waste disposed of at licensed landfills located within St. Joseph County. Superior Waste is recommending a recycling program to reduce our volume of trash. Rizek asked Winne what kind of a curbside recycling program they have. Winne said that they would furnish residents with curbside containers, and it's a farily simple thing to start up in a community. In response to Walt Heil’s question of how they figure tonnage, Winne replied that the Waste District had determined that 3.3 gubic yards of solid waste will equal one ton. Superior Waste is estimating that the yardage on their trucks will breakdown to 15 cents per cubic yard. Gordon Hartsell asked if they have any idea how much of an increase will be passed on the Walkerton customers. Winne said that as he was not involved in any of the pricing, he will have to look into this for us. Rizek asked Winne if Superior Waste can help us with a press release that we can use to let residents know how the recycling program will work. Gene Reese asked if they will have to make a separate run to pick up the recyclable materials, and will this be more costly. Winne wasn’t sure if this additional cost will be passed on to us, or if the value of the recyclables will offset any cost. He added that Ray Garbaciak, General Manager, can answer these questions, and will see if Garbaciak can attend our October 19th meeting to more fully discuss recycling. Winne is to call the clerk to let her know how much the landfill increase will increase our cost. This information will be passed on to our attorney, so that a new ordinance can be drafted. Dave Behr, Redevelopment Commission, reported on sewer lines north of town. Behr said that Pioneer Southern's business is growing, and they are in serious need of a new septic system. Pio- । neer would like to see sewer lines extended to their site. Pioneer owns the former Conrail Railroad right-of-way, from Pine Creek to S.R. 23 and they have agreed to dedicate an easement for the sewer along this property. This would give a direct connection from the ; Wastewater Treatment Plant to । Pioneer Southern, and then on to the new Industrial Park Northeast. I (continued on Page 12)

Failing to sustain the drive, Triton took the ball over deep in their own territory and then fumbled with Rick Peddycord recovering for the Falcons at the Triton 17. Although they didn't score a touchdown, Brian Perry put Glenn on the board first with a 25 yard field goal. This game with 6:02 left in the opening quarter. The Trojans came right back. They marched 75 yards down the field, mainly on two big running plays by Andy Alderfer, who broke one for 40 yards and then capped the drive with an 18 yard scoring run. Alderfer also kicked the extra point and the visitors from Bourbon led 7-6 with 4:29 left in the opening quarter. Glenn didn’t score in the first quarter, but it took them just a short while in the second as Perry broke free on a 38 yard touchdown gallop. He also kicked the extra point and Glenn led for good in this game 10-7 with 9:59 showing on the dock. Forcing Triton to punt, Glenn again found Perry breaking a big one as he sprinted 49 yards for a score in this drive. Another good kick and it was 17-7 Glenn with 7:52 left in the first half. The third score of the quarter came on their next possession as Pat Speckhart capped a 54 yard drive with a one yard run for the score. Another true kick made it 24-7, the way the first half would end. Perry rushed for 96 yards on just three carries in this period. The Falcons finished their scoring about halfway through the third period. Speckhart hit Jason Groves with a pass for a touchdown for the final Glenn score. Perry once again was true with the kick and it was 31-7 with a quarter and a half left to play. Triton did managed to put another score on the board in this game, a 25 yard pass from Sam Ochstein to Brandon Treber accounting for the six points with just seconds left in the contest. The kick set the final score at 31-14. Visit South Central Friday On Friday night the Falcons will* play their only non-conference game of the year as they visit the South Central Satellites for a 7:30 kickoff. The Satellites are again a very good Cass A team as they
