Open House Set For Bethel’s Bowen Museum An open house for the Bowen Museum at Bethel College will be held Sunday, September 20 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the museum, housed in the Otis and Elizabeth Bowen Library, 1001 W. McKinley Avenue (Logan at McKinley), Mishawaka. The museum contains the papers and memorabilia of Dr. Otis R. Bowen, Indiana's 42nd governor and former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Hundreds of campaign buttons, political cartoons, news clippings and photographs unfolding all aspects of Dr. Bowen's career enhance the collection, which also includes "Doc” Bowen’s housecalling bag and early medical instruments, personal items that belonged to Dr. Bowen and his family, and his governor’s chair. Dr. Bowen is scheduled to be present to greet visitors and answer their questions during the open house. The public is welcome to attend. Regular museum hours are on Wednesdays between 2 and 4 p.m., or by special appointment. For information call the currator of the museum or the librarian at (219) 257-3347 or 259-8511. KNITTING CLASSES AT NORTH LIBERTY LIBRARY It is time to start knitting your Christmas gifts, come join us at the North Liberty Library each Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for children. ENGAGED OB Mr. and Mrs. John and Diane Small, Sr., of Walkerton wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Anne, to Kirk David Rader, of Bremen. The couple will be wed on December 26, 1992 at Salem United Methodist Church in Bremen. The future bride is a 1987 graduate of John Glenn High School. She also graduated from Grace College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She is employed by JMS Insurance Group. The future groom is the son of David and Paula Rader, of Bremen. He is a 1987 graduate of Bremen High School. He will graduate from Purdue University with a bacheolor's degree in Electrical Engineer Technology in December. He has been on Cooperative Work sessions with Bendix Automotive Systems in South Bend. If you want to see someone with driving ambition, just find a teenager who is a year under the legal driving age.

TUXEDO JUNCTION TO PERFORM AT POTATO CREEK Potato Creek State Park will host a performance of Tuxedo Junction on Saturday, September 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Peppermint Hill Shelter as part of their Darcey Days weekend. Tuxedo Junction performs music of the 30's and 40's in true big band style. This performance is truly fitting for this weekend focusing on the history of the Potato Creek State Park area. The first proponent of the Park. Darcey Worster, and his wife were members of the Guy Lombardo fan club and and music was an important part of their family's life. The concert is free of charge after the regular Park admission fee of $2.00 a car load is paid. It is suggested that lawn chairs be brought to ensure comfortable seating for the performance. In addition to the performance by Tuxedo Junction there will be several other programs offered this weekend focusing on the history of the area. These programs will range from a look at Darcey Worster's life to exploring an old farm site. Contact the Park at 656-8186 for further schedule details and times. ON RED CROSS ASSIGNMENT IN GUAM Pearl Aldrich, of North Liberty, left Tuesday for a Red Cross assignment in Guam. She will be working in the area of Family Services with the Red Cross with the victims of the recent typhoon that ravaged Guam. It is estimated the storm left at least half the people homeless. She expects to be serving there for approximately three weeks. COUNTY LINE CLUB TO HOLD PICNIC SUNDAY, SEPT. 20 The September meeting of the County Line Club will be a picnic on Sunday, September 20. at the Stuntz & Hochstetler Pines Forest.
