ever to turn the vision of combining museums and libraries into a reality. Integral to Rex’s Lending Center is the method of returning materials. They will be stamped with a due date and can be returned to the Children’s Museum or nearly any public library in Indiana, including the Walkerton Public Library. During a 1989 prototype of Rex’s Lending Center at the Children’s Museum, borrowing at the museum led to more borrowing at the local libraries which particiapted. The same results is expected with the use of Rex’s Lending Center. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis worked extensively with the Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis University Libraries and Central Indiana Area Library Services Authority in developing Rex’s Lending Center. Visitors will be allowed to check out three resources for up to two weeks from the center. They will recieve their materials in special envelopes that can be dropped off within the two-week lending period to most Indiana Public Libraries for return to The Children’s Museum.

“We’re redefining how places of learning can serve people who want to learn,” said Peter Sterling, president of The Children’s Museum. “Kids who get turned on by an exhibit will have the opportunity to extend the experience that’s right in front of them. And they can learn a great deal more about it by utilizing their local library.” The W. K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan, awarded The Children’s Museum a generous grant for Rex’s Lending Center. The museum’s partners in this project are the Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis Libraries and the Central Area Library Services Authority. R.E.A.L. SERVICES NUTRITION PROGRAM N. L.
