Woman’s Club Opens Their New Club Season The ladies of the GFWC Walkerton Women's Community Gub were happy and excited to be back together for their first meeting of their new year, 1992-93. Twentysix members and three guests met at the Walkerton Community Building on Friday, September 4. Desserts were served by Ella Remus, Mary Jane Beaty, Mildred Nolcheff and guest, Nina Pickavet. The other guests were Dorothy Sinclair and Dorothy Bouse. The president opened the meeting and welcomed the group. Mildred Casey gave the prayer and led the members in the Pledge of Allegience and the singing of "God Bless America." The club's Collect was read aloud by the members. Gen England read a very timely and heartening essay for devotions. Mildred McKesson, secretary and Ruth Rusch, treasurer, received the membership dues and gave the members their new cards and yearbooks. The secretary read a letter from member Marge Curl whose health makes it impossible for her to attend meetings. She will be placed on the Honorary Members rolls. Mildred Casey, chairman of the auditing committee, reported that she and Margaret Moravek had found the books to be in excellent order. The president gave a report on the International Convention which she had attended in June in Indianapolis. After a moment of silent prayer for Dorothea Brenner who passed away recently, the meeting was adjourned. The 13th District conference will be held on October 10 in Goshen. Summer Reading Makes A Hit At Walkerton Library This summer the Walketon Public Library with the help of Pizza Hut out of Plymouth, sponsored Pow Wow With Books, for children ages 3 through grades 6. Each child that read five books got a free personal pan pizza from the Pizza Hut in Plymouth. For 10 books they received a Pow Wow With Books sticker and bookmark. Fifteen books got them an Indian headband to decorate and a feather to put in it. For reading 20 books children received an Indian necklace with one large bead — symbolizing the books they had read. Many children read more than 20 books and they received one bead for each extra they read. The children did a great job. This year there were 98 readers. The following is a list of children who participated this summer. Congratulations!
