NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman The North Liberty High School "Would Be" Class of 1982 held their ten year reunion Saturday, August 29 at the North Liberty Community Center. Approximately 90 people attended and enjoyed a dinner catered by Bob’s Country Store with music provided by Band’s Unlimited. Kari and Jay Williams and son, Evan, of Crete, Illinois, spent the weekend at her parents, Travis and Joan Holmes. Kari and Jay attended her ten year class reunion on Saturday evening. Our sympathy goes to Tanya and Scott Johnson, of Galesburg, in the loss of their stillborn baby girl last Wednesday, August 26. Graveside services were held at Oak Grove Cemetery. She was named Jennifer Ruth Ann. She had a brother, Nathen. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson, of Hersey, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Balsley, of North Liberty. Theda Carlson, of South Bend, and Gladys Sheneman enjoyed dinner together Sunday at Wanda’s Place for the first time. The dinner was delicious and we saw many friends eating there also. 5o it you haven’t already been there, do so in the near future and sample her delicious homemade pies that she bakes everyday. Charles and Helen Hensley and Charlie’s son, Barry, of Richmond, Virginia, and Charles' daughter, Diane Matthews and son, Steven, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, who he hasn’t seen for eight years, had a wonderful vacation together at Clam Lake, in Siren, Wisconsin. They caught lots of fish and brought home 200. They will never forget this wonderful trip together. Happy 50th birthday, Mike Kochanowski (our postmaster), from all your customers and best wishes. Heard you were really surprised Sunday on your birthday. NOW RENTING Mini-Storage Located In The North Liberty Industrial Park Sizes Starting At sxlo — 10x10 10 x 20 - 10 x 30 656-4914 9:00 a m. Guests Saturday of Edward Pogodzinski were his brother, Lee and his wife, Charlotte and daughter Connie and her daughter, Betsy, of Chicago, Illinois, and Gladys Sheneman. Congratulations Bob and Nancy Beghtel as they celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with an open house at the Greene Township Community Center. Best wishes from all your many friends. Sunday morning, September 6, the new Mennonite Church in North Liberty will be in charge of the morning worship at 8:30 a.m. for the campers out at Peppermint Hill in Potato Creek State Park. This will be the last Sunday morning service by the area churches for the season. They have been well attended by the campers and other area people and we need to thank the Christian Ministerial Association for making the services available for the campers. Kendal Elmore of the Pine Creek Church is chairman Charles Richmond, park service co-ordinator and Don Dennie, secretary and treasurer. Mary Morey entertained the following friends on Monday afternoon, Pearl Newcomb, Iva Pommert, Mae McDaniel, Martha McCrosky and Gladys Sheneman. Lovely refreshments were served before they returned home. Emma Smith (102) and Gertrude Behnke (104) both celebrated their birthdays on Friday, August 28 at Miller’s Merry Manor with a special party in their honor with Florence Seekings entertaining with her lovely singing while stumming on her guitar. Guests of Emma were Pauline and Becky Burch, Thelma Haag, of Tyner, and Beverly Goldt, of Plymouth. They brought Emma a happy birthday balloon, roses, flowers and other gifts. Those of Gertrude Behnke family were her granddaughter, Marion Howell, of Eric, Pennsylvania, Orville and Elaine Thorstein son, of Merrillville, and Genevieve England, all good friends. Birthday cake and punch were served to all present and it was a happy day for Emma and Gertrude. Does anyone know of Pearl Wolf? I would like to thank her for sending me a free sample issue of the Reminisce magazine. I thought it was the Pearl Wolff I know but when I called to thank her, she said it wasn't her and she didn’t know about the magazine. So I looked a Wolf up in the directory and they didn’t have any Pearl in their family, so I still don’t have any idea and there was no address. I am going to order the magazine and I will see if 1 can get some information and I will let you all know if I find where Pearl Wolf hails from.
Another week has gone by, the kids are back in school and today, Friday, it sure did look and feel just like fall. I can’t believe next Tuesday is the first of September. How about you? I have hardly got to use my proch swing as it has been just too cool to sit out in the evenings so far this summer. Well, its canning time and everybody is busy canning and freezing. So many of my friends have shared potatoes, beets, onions, pickles, sweet com, tomatoes, zucchini and butternut squash out of their gardens for which I am so thankful for and have really been enjoying all these goodies along with the currant jell I received from Iva Gark and Verda Karo. All I can say is thanks a million for thinking of me and sharing with me. Just to let all you readers know that Tyner still does have a post office and that Alan Burkholder is the postmaster. Verda Kam, of Tyner, sent me this information. He says he has 250 customers and he loves it. He has served as postmaster for over 14 years. He says the branch receives about 600 to 900 pieces of mail a day. So, I'm happy to hear the good news, as Tyner has lost so many other businesses down through the years and I just hope and pray that they can always keep their post office. As Alan says, he likes best the coming and going of all his customers. Contentment comes when your earning power equals your yearning power. Minor operation: One performed on somebody else.
