FORT WAYNE- SOUTH BEND DIOCESE WILL TAKE UP SPECIAL COLLECTION Bishop John D'Arcy has announced that the Roman Catholic Churches of the Diocese will take up a special collection for the victims of Hurricane Andrew in Southern Florida. This request from Bishop D’Arcy comes in response to an appeal made by Archbishop Edward McCarthy of Miami and Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk, President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, to help those in need. The special collection will take place at all Masses on September 5-6. Bishop D'Arcy said in a letter to all parishioners: “I am asking every parish to take up a special collection. Surely responding generously at this time is part of our responsibility as Catholics. Indeed, such a response is a privilege. Everything that is received will be sent, as soon as possible, through the Disaster Response operated by Catholic Charities, USA. All funds will go directly to help those in need. Think of what it would have meant to you if the home you have saved for over a lifetime was ruined in a few hours." Archbishop Pilarczyk said persons who wish to help may also be advised to send donations to Disaster Response, Catholic Charities, USA, 1731 King Street. Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314. R.E.A.L.
