Clerk-treasurer Judy Hiler was also present. Seconded by Walt Heil. Carried. Gene Reese made the motion to accept the second reading. Seconded by Len Jaske. Carried. Walt Heil made the motion to accept the third reading. Seconded by Gene Reese. Carried. OLD BUSINESS: Gene Reese suggested that if any of the council members have changes they would like to see made to the Animal Control Ordinance, they should see if those changes can be made right away. It was decided to change the public hearing date for this ordinance to September 21, 1992, since it is doubtful that our attorney will be able to attend the September Bth meeting. It was also decided to go over the results of the sewer survey at the October Sth, 1992 meeting, instead of the September Bth meeting. NEW BUSINESS: There was some discussion of tall weeds and grass and the procedure for making sure that the problem areas are taken care of. Gordon Hartsell told the Council that he has received a complaint about the stop sign at Illinois and Ohio, and he has also heard that there’s a petition out to have it removed. It was decided to write to Jim Schmidt, Indiana Department of Highways, and ask him to come to the October 19th, 1992 Council meeting to discuss INDOT’s plan to remove the traffic signal at the eastern intersection of 6 & 23. Walt Heil said that when he, Rizek, Hartsell and Back looked the building over the other night, they found that the building isn’t in as bad a shape as they had thought it was. They discussed blocking up old windows and repainting the building. Rizek said that she didn't think that they could justify spending a large sum of money on renovations, and believes tuckpointing and painting will do the job. Len Jaske said that he has contacted someone to give him an estimate for putting on siding. Twenty thousand dollars has been set aside in the Electric Department's budget for renovating the Town Hall. Len Jaske suggested that we make sure that whoever we hire to do the work on the building, is bonded. Gene Reese made the motion to adjourn. Seconded by Walt Heil. Carried.

Former Judge Ordered To Pay Town Os Walkerton Although the Town of Walkerton has not been so informed, a story last week in the South Bend Tribune stated that former Walkerton Town Court Judge Judy Baker, 46, had been placed on probation and ordered to pay back $9,000 in money missing from fines while she was serving as Town Court judge. She had a I‘4 year sentence suspended by Judge William T. Means on Friday, was placed on probation, ordered to repay the $9,000, perform 100 hours of community service, and was ordered to continue to receive counseling. Baker now lives in the Granger area. She was charged with withholding fines collected from persons appearing before her in Town Court from 1988 through 1990. The $9,000 figure was well below a $28,000 figure she was accused of withholding following an audit by the State Board of Accounts. She entered a plea of guilty to a Class D felony in June. This does not necessarily close the case on Baker. She still could be charged with failure to report traffic violations to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the State could also file a civil suit seeking repayment of the entire amount the audit showed. Baker was bonded for SIO,OOO each year of the years involved and the bonding company will pay the $9,000 total set by the Prosecutor’s office. The Town of Walkerton had been taking steps to close the Town Court during this time due to the fact projected income was falling far below expectations. This money goes into the General Fund and instead of supplying money for the General Fund, the court was at this time costing the Town money. Since the disclosure was made, a new judge was appointed and since elected and the Town Court is selfsustaining and meeting expectations once again.
