NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman Tom and Tish McCormick have £een busy getting Tim enrolled in college in Vincennes and Arron West in college at I.U. in Bloomington. I can’t believe its time for the kids to go back to school Tuesday and go to college already. Where did the summer go? s 'Travis and Joan Holmes returned home after spending the i>ast two weeks along with Joan’s brother Frank, Jr., and his wife, Mary, sightseeing in Colorado. They visited Denver, Colorado Springs, the Garden of the Gods and saw many interesting places in the mountains. They returned to Monette, Mo. to Frank’s home and then spent sometime in Bronson and saw the Andy Williams Show. They returned home byway of Crete, Illinois and visited their daughter Kari and her husband, Jay and their son, Evan. The scenery was beautiful and they really enjoyed their two weeks vacation. Kim and Gaudia Stuber entertained nine little friends Saturday afternoon with a birthday party for their daughter, Kristin, who turned six years old on Saturday. They enjoyed swimming in the pool, games and even taking turns riding a pony. Kristin received many lovely gifts after which refreshments were enjoyed by all. ‘ The history of Potato Creek will be presented by slide showing the history and development of the park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18. If you are interested, mark it on your calendar. Fourteen residents of the Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, who were celebrating August birthdays were honored Sunday afternoon. John Sienicki, of Mishawaka, entertained on his concertina. The Walkerton Tri Kappa served refreshments of birthday cake and punch. A special party will be held Friday, August 28, at 1:30 p.m. for Emma Smith, who will be 102 and Gertrude Behnke who will be 104. You are welcome to join them for this special day. Aletha Croy of the Savoie Apartments attendded the 47th Croy Reunion held Sunday at the Plymouth Centennial Park. There were 39 present coming from Versailles, Kentucky, Culver, South Bend, Lakeville, Plymouth and North Liberty. They decided to hold it the same place next year. A large crowd attended the Powered Parachute and Ultralight Fly-in on Saturday and Sunday at Stuntz and Hochstetler Pines. All enjoyed the competition flying and the hog roast on Saturday. There were door prizes and trophies for the winners. Mr. and Mrs. William Porter and family of Plainfield, Indiana, called on Ethel Rauen on Saturday and had lunch with her and then on Sunday, her brother, Wesley Mack and his wife, of Wanatah, spent the afternoon. When downtown, be sure and stop at the bank window and see the display that Bob Balsley has in the window of the depot, tower, beanery and his train running on the track and the display of cars and things of the 1930’5. The only thing I didn’t hear was the train whistle. It sure brings back memories of how our town use to look. The North Liberty Mennonite Church was filled Saturday evening when the Sharon Chorus of Sugarcreek, Ohio, gave a special concert with 40 voices taking part, with David Lee Stutzman, director. They have been on tour since June 14th in many states and will not complete their tour until November Ist. They were great. People came from Ohio, Toto, Nappanee, Wakarusa, Bremen and North Liberty area churches to hear them. Sorry to say we are soon going to lose our good neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Gy de Creech on State Road 4 West as they have now sold their lovely home and will be moving to Lakeland, Florida, near their children. The North Liberty United Methodist Church with the pastor, James Stansell, will hold the 8:30 a.m. morning worship service for the campers out at Peppermint Hill Shelter on Sunday morning. Park. Ray and Georgia Bergland, who spent the summer at their beautiful mobile home on Hamilton Lake entertained twenty members of the “Over the Hill Gang" from the Church of Christ on Tuesday. Everything was perfect except the weather, it was just a little too windy and chilly off of that beautiful big lake. But we had a wonderful carry-in dinner and then we got caught in a hard rain storm on the way home, but all in all, it was a fun day. Please remember Virginia Ames who returned home Friday from the hospital after undergoing surgery last week. Also remember Sis Heim and Vesta DeCourdes. Congratulations goes to Jackie Singleton, who has been in the real estate business the past ten years and has recently joined the Coldwell Banker Felix & Assoc, staff of real estate sales professionals in Plymouth. Jackie could sell anything when she worked at Harvey’s Dime Store. Remember when she sold a man’s tennis shoe, size 14, for 35 cents on sidewalk days? Your friends all wish you well, Jackie, in your real estate sales. Susie Teter and friend Edna, of Mishawaka, were Sunday dinner guests of Gladys Sheneman. They visited the nursing home and called on Gene and Norma Patrick on the way home. WALKERTON Y.A.B.A. It is time to sign up for Junior Bowling in Walkerton.
