Anyone is welcome to attend. Thanks Doug Davis for writting to let me know how much you missed by news last week and how you look forward to reading my news every week. You made my day. Thank you. Mrs. Gary Lord and children Adam and Joanna, of Lafayette, visited her parents, Durwood and Ruth Clark, this past week. Mildred Hunter returned home last week after spending a week with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Marshall, of Green Hills, Ohio. While there she got to visit with her granddaughter, Miss Julie Anne Marshall, from Corpus Cristi, Texas and her grandson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Marshall and daughters Rian and Abbe Marshall, of Cincinnati. One day was spent enjoying the hot air balloon contest. Some were shaped as a Pepsi can, a roll of 35 mm film, a paint can, a Mr. Peanut, a huge gym shoe (10 stores high) and the Klondike Ice Cream bar Polar Bear about 12 stories high. It would cover about four tennis courts. Beautiful sights seeing about 100 hot air balloons up in the air at the same time. Another day was spent at Columbus, Ohio at Americaflora, where we saw many beautiful flowers, displays, buildings and fountains. Also she was able to have supper with her granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Galen Work, who live in Columbus, Ohio. It

was a wonderful week getting to see grandchildren and great-grand-daughters and so many interesting things. Joyce Richmond returned home Sunday evening after spending the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Prickett, in Willimgton, Ohio. She even got to see her daughter Jill and her husband Scott Lucas who visited her while there. Florence Garwood had a surprise the first of last week when she spotted a balloon in her yard. She picked it up and it had a note in it which read: Ist Baptist Church Bible School, Valparaiso, Indiana, saying "Spreading The Word". She wrote them and received a nice thank you note from them. Small world isn’t it? And we still do have a lot of caring and sharing people in it. Well the Festival has come and gone already. The weather was ideal although it did get a little chilly in the evenings. About 50 attended the Sunday morning service at 8:30 a.m. with Jim Davis, speaker, after which the Rejoice Singers from LaPorte entertained. At 12:00 noon, the Great Swami (hypnotist) Ellis Siwhart, kept the large audience in stitches as he performed his great act with several young people. At 3:00 p.m. the Middle of the Road Band entertained until 6:00 p.m. and they drew the largest crowd of all. They were great and the people seemed to love their kind of music and many got out and participated. All in all, it was a great Festival. Ruth Martin and her granddaughter Ashley, of Montclair, California, is here visiting her relatives and attended the Potato Creek Festival. With Tom Fair as tour guide, 47 people, mostly Church of Christ members, boarded a bus Saturday morning out at the church and headed for Chicago to see the Cubs play ball . The sad part was they lost 11-6. But they had lots of fun on the bus going and coming and they stopped at a Hardee's Restaurant on the way home, where they enjoyed supper and arrived back in North Liberty at 9:00 p.m. Some still came to hear Roger Kronk and his band entertain at the Festival. The residents and their families enjoyed their picnic together Saturday at Miller's Merry Manor nursing home in Walkerton. Many enjoyed dinner outside, since the weather was ideal, but many ate in the building with their loved ones. The girls grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and then many brought salads and desserts along with lots of watermelon and cantaloupe. Some clowns came from LaPorte and visited with the residents while
Gladys Sheneman entertained on the piano while they were eating their dinner. It was a fun day for the residents, thanks to Mary Jo, Judy, Christy and all her helpers. 1 hear so many complaints about the trains blowing their whistles. Did you know that two railroads were constructed back in 1894, the Wabash Railroad, which extended through North Liberty, Lakeville and Wyatt, and connected the area to Ceveiand and Toledo, Ohio on the east and Chicago on the west. Then in 1895 the Conrail was constructed, which ran through Indiana, Illinois and lowa, and then North Liberty was incorporated in June of that year. Yes trains came into being before I was bom, and I still love to ride a train and did seven times to Denver, Colorada and once to California. When I heard that train whistle I knew we were approaching a town, and I loved to see all the lights of the big cities as we passed through at night and would stop at the stations and drop off the big mail bags. Yes, I love to hear the train whistles and as long as I live, personally, I would much rather hear the train whistle than that awfully loud rock and roll music that they sing over and over and I can't understand what they are singing today. How about you? Please remember Virginia (Rose) Ames, who underwent surgery Saturday morning in Community Hospital.

Mae Packer and Florence Garwood enjoyed dinner together Sunday at Al’s Restaurant, Koontz Lake. Dinner guest Thursday of Dorothy Reed and her sister Marquerite McCutcheon, of Phoenix, Arizona, who is here visiting, was two of her friends, Fran Wickberg and Stella Kaminski, of Chesterton, and their sister Ethel Hilligas and her daughter Fran Feiser of South Bend. Can you believe this, Florence Garwood heard a terrible noise last Friday morning at 5:00 a.m., when it was just getting daylight and as she went out to see what was going on, 33 geese flying south. You know what that means don't you? Acts like fall nights already. Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. "The Sharon Chorus” from Sugarcreek, Ohio, will be at the Men-
