Joan Freeman, a North Liberty resident and region manager with Lady Remington Fashion Jewelry, was presented with the “Top Division Seller” award, the “Top Division Recruiter” award and a $1,500 cash bonus by John Kiple, president and Victor Kiam, chairman of Lady Remington Fashion Jewelry at the company's Annual Conference held in Chicago. WALKERTON Mrs. Leonard Beaty and daughter, Jean Cole, returned Monday evening from a two week visit with Jean’s son, Richard Cole and family in Charlotte, North Carolina. While there, they celebrated Jean's 55th birthday and her retirement from teaching. Everyone in the restaurant sang “Happy Birthday” while her granddaughters, Brooke and Amber, helped Jean blow out the candles. PATRICK’S TO HOST GROUP FROM RIVERBEND COMMUNICATIONS St. Patrick’s School in Walkerton will host a back-to-school luncheon on Thursday, August 20, to mark the beginning of the new school year and to help new staff members and volunteers to become aquainted. Twenty teachers and volunteers will enjoy a noon lunch followed by introductions by Principal Sr. Dian Majsterek,. The afternoon will include games and prizes designed to help staff and volunteers get to know one another. Among those attending are the school board president, athletic director, a sign language volunteer and volunteer tutor. ATTEND PORCELAIN ART SEMINAR AT ANDERSON Pauline Laskowski of North Liberty and Victoria Shogren, of Koontz Lake, completed a six day porcelain art seminar held at Anderson College sponsored by the Porcelain Art School of Indiana. The Porcelain Art School received a SSOO grant from the Indiana Art Commission and the National Humannities for the Arts. This is a grant to further the art of porcelain art. Pauline also attended the Porcelain Art School of Indiana board meeting held Wednesday at Anderson College where she serves as one of the school’s board members. Victoria and Pauline are members of the LaPorte Area Porcelain Artists. “WE BELIEVE IN YOU” CHALLENGE AND CHANGE FOR THE FUTURE The “We Believe in You” program at Ancilla is designed to encourage students over the age of 23 to attend college. Students who have never attended college may enroll in one or two courses of their choice for a five week, tuition free, trial period. The only cost incurred is a $20.00 application fee and the cost of book(s). At the end of the five week trial period, the student may elect to continue with the course(s) and pay tuition or draw with no bill. Thanks to the "We Believe In You’” program many studnets have continues their college careers and have gone on to attain advanced degrees. MEMORIAL OFFERS FREE SAFETY FAIR FOR KIDS CPR demonstrations and handson practice calling the emergency number 911 are among activities scheduled for Kid Safe Saturday, Memorial Hospital’s annual safety fair for children from kindergarten through sixth grade. The event takes place on Saturday, August 15, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the hospital’s PACE Pavilion atrium, courtyard and parking lot. Safety information and activities also include fingerprinting and photo identification, bike safety, poison safety, dental hygiene and safety, seat belt safety, personal safety, DARE, latchkey safety, and exhibits on asthma and orthopedic casts. Children attending the fair must be accompanied by an adult.
