JOHN GLENN SCHOOLS TO OPEN TOES., AUG. 25 Students in grade 1-12 in the John Glenn School Corporation will attend their first day of classes Tuesday, August 25. Times are as follows: John Glenn High School — 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Dismissal. North Liberty Elementary School — 8:10 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Dismissal. (Elementary students who walk home are dismissed at 2:45 p.m.) Urey Middle School — 8:05 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. Dismissal. Walkerton Elementary School — 8:10 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Dismissal. (Elementary students who walk home are dismissed at 2:45 p.m.) Lunches will cost SI.OO per day for grades one through six and $1.25 per day for grades seven through 12. Breakfast, which is served at Walkerton Elementary and North Liberty Elementary School, will cost 55 cents. Students attending John Glenn High School, North Liberty Elementary School, Urey Middle School and Walkerton Elementary School shall register on the following days: Wednesday, August 19, 12:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students enrolling in kindergarten must be five years of age on or before June 1 and must submit a legal birth certificate and a completed physical form when registering. Arrangements must be made at Walkerton Elementry School or North Liberty Elementary School for pre-screening of kindergarten students. Kindergarten classes start Monday, August 31. Students new to the John Glenn School Corporation should contact the guidance department in each school to schedule registration appointments during the week of August 12-18. All incoming kindergarten students and students new to the corporation must have a physical and inoculations up to date before being admitted to school. Parents should be prepared to pay textbook rental and fee costs upon registration. Community Church Service At N.L. Festival The Sunday Morning Service at the Potato Creek Festival in the Ist Source Bank parking lot will be under the direction of Tim Davis, beginning at 8:30 a.m. For the children, Jim Bergstrom, of the Children’s Evangelism Fellowship, will have something special in their Red Caboose at the Festival. All will be conducted early enough so you will have time to attend your regular service. Two new items at the Potato Creek Festival are a “Car Bash”, sponsored by the North Liberty Lions. It will be located north of the drug store. And “Bubbles” the Gown will be on hand Friday afternoon to entertain all with face painting and balloon sculpturing. The Liberty Drug Store has also generously offered the used of their restroom for use of handicapped persons at the Festival. Falcon Football Scrimmage Is Open To Public The John Glenn High School football team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited. Come out and watch the Falcon football team warm up for the 1992 campaign. There is no admission charge and concessions will be available. coverage is available at the following rates: School-Time Coverage — Comprehensive, $39.00; Standard, $15.50; Economy, $9.50. 24-Hour Coverage — Comprehensive, $173.50; Standard, $100.75; Economy, $61.00. Dental Plan — Comprehensive, $6.00. Student Life — Comprehensive, $30.00. The School Corporation does not carry medical insurance on students. High school athletes must be covered by the athletic department policy. Elementary and middle school athletes must show proof of insurance to participate. Bus routes will have few changes from the 1991-92 school year. Pickup points for students in Walkerton and North Liberty will remain the same as last year. The John Glenn School Corporation will be requesting the student’s social security number for enrollment information. Please bring the number when you come for registration. Potato Creek Festival patrons are in for a musical treat as the “Middle Os The Road Band” entertains them on Sunday, August 16th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The LaPorte based band performs a variety of tunes, anywhere from the 1940’s to today’s latest hits. Included in this medley are 10 of their own songs written by their lead vocalist and bass guitar
player, Frank Van Schoyck. Other band members are: Dave Legner, keyboard and vocals; Dave Deneau, lead guitar and vocals; Nick Van Schoyck, percussions; and Mark Lachmund, sound and drums. The trouble with being young is that you're not old enough to enjoy u.
ST. PATRICK’S TO BEGIN SCHOOL MONDAY, AUG. 25 Just as the children are becoming bored with summer St. Patrick School will open doors to learning. On Tuesday, August 25th, children in ages 1-6 will report to class at the regular time. Uniforms are the order of the day. The students, faculty and interested parents will celebrate the beginning of school year 1992-93, with an opening Mass. Father Gene, Pastor, will preside at this liturgical celebration. Balloons and joyous song will fill the church when the children enter. Mrs. Judith Rush will prepare lunch this day, and for the rest of the year. The cost of lunches remains at SI.OO per day ($5.00 for the week) with extra milk at 20 cents a day or SI.OO per week. Students are expected to have the following supplies with them each day of class: Grades 1 A 2 2 sharpened primary (fat) pencils (or regular pencils with a pencil grip) 1 soft, pink eraser 1 small bottle school glue 1 pair scissors 1 box 8 or 16 crayons (not more) 1 pocket folder 1 zippered pouch to hold pencils 1 box tissues to share with class Grade* 3 * 6 2 sharpened pencils 2 erasable pens 1 red pen 1 soft, pink eraser 1 ruler, 6 or 12 inches 1 box 16 or 24 crayons (not more) 1 bottle school glue 1 pair scissors 1 pocket folder 1 loose leaf binder (not trapper keeper) Loose leaf paper (in binder) 1 box tissues to share with class The book fee, ($70.00 for grades 1-6 and $45.00 for kindergarten) is due the first week of school. Tuition is due the 10th of each month. Kindergarten classes begin Monday, August 31. Class time for kindergarten is: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:15-11:00 and Tuesday and Thursday — 8:15 to 2:45. Kingergarten children may order hot lunch or bring a sack lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Nursery classes for children who are eligible for kindergarten in 1993 will begin Wednesday after Labor Day. September 9. The fee is due the 10th of each month. Parents may register children on Monday, August 17 or Friday, August 21 in the school office.
