NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman Heidi and Frank Lawson, of Ocala, Florida, visited with her parents, Henry and Joan Koenig last week. On Monday, overnight guest of Joan and Henry Koenig were Verona and Bruce Clements of Cocoa Beach, Florida. Misses Thora and Marjorie Gentry, of Sebring, Florida, have returned to their home after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ron Putman and Mr. and Mrs. Max Steele for the past three weeks. Nancy Steele Brzycki and children, Gina and Taddy, of Longmont, Colorado, have been visiting Mrs. Brzycki's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Steele. Gary and Madelyn Nelson spent tne weekend at the Holiday Inn in Warsaw where they attended the Manchester College Reunion. There were about 100 attending and on Saturday evening they all attended the banquet prepared for them. On Saturday they toured the college campus, had a luncheon at the Student Union Building and then on Sunday morning the Reunion ended with a wonderful brunch. I just talked to Warner Gark. He is back home from the hospital and getting along fine. He said to tell everyone thanks for the prayers, cards and calls. So we all say, “hang in there Warner”. Sunday evening callers of Edna King were Francis Rainier, of LaPorte, and her daughter, Linda, here visiting from the Netherlands. Patty Fisher and son Adam, of North Liberty, and Ruth Ullery, Jerry and Evelyn Houser and Judy Mercer, all of Walkerton, attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Marge and Gene Kiracofe at the United Methodist Church in Huntington Sunday afternoon. John and Sharon Kiracofe and family, of Austin, Texas, are here visiting her sisters, Judy and Evelyn and other relatives and friends. Aletha Croy and Edna King attended the 69th Ransbottom Reunion Sunday at the home of Bill and Lu Town, in Bremen. Forty members were present. The reunion will be held the same place next year. Rev. Charles and Joyce Richmond returned home last Thursday after a 10 day vacation in California where they visited their son, Jay, his wife Rhonda, granddaughter Courtney and new grandson Kyle Anthony, who is two months, who they saw for the first time. Christian Convention from Tuesday until Saturday. They also saw the big redwood trees and visited the Crystal Cathedral where Rev. Schuler is Pastor. All in all, they saw a lot in the 10 days they were gone. The Lakeville Christian Church, with their pastor Roy Herbster, will have the 8:30 a.m. morning worship service for the campers out at Peppermint Hill shelter at Potato Creek State Park. Florence Garwood and Dorothy Reed called on Hazel Davis at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth and then called on Carl and Peggy Davis. Garence Dixon and grandson, of Chicago, Illinois, spent last Wednesday with Florence Garwood. Twenty-seven young people and six adults boarded two Church of Christ vans Sunday afternoon and headed for Kenosha, Wisconsin to Rev. Brian Henry’s church where they were going to spend the night and then Monday morning they were going to “Great America” for the day and return home late Monday evening. George and Wilda Henry accompanied them in their car. Florence Garwood and her cousin Ruth Leonard called on Barb Ahia in the Logansport Hospital the other day and then drove to Kokomo and called on Betty Lou Brenton at her new home. They had a very enjoyable day together. Our sympathy this week goes to the Vestal McEndarger family in the loss of a daughter, Diann Schafer, of Mishawaka. She leaves four children, four sisters and eight brothers to mourn her loss besides a host of relatives and friends. She was only 42 and died of cancer. Her funeral was held at the NusbaumElkin Funeral Home Tuesday in Walkerton and a dinner was served at Al’s Restaurant in the new banquet room at Koontz Lake. Your reporter was present and had a good visit with all her brothers and sisters as they were my next door neighbors on Road 4. Mr. and Mrs. Gail McDaniel, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bergland, Helen Loucks and Gladys Sheneman were guests Wednesday along with others from the Hudson Lake Church, Sauktown Church, Surburban Gardens and Rolling Prairie Church at the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Landes out in the country near Roiling Prairie. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all after which Mrs. Landes read a poem about Heaven’s Grocery Store and they several won prizes from some interested contests that I had never heard of before. It was great to meet all those wonderful Christian friends once again. Last summer they were our guests out at the Church of Christ at a picnic dinner

in Potato Creek State Park. Vera Krueger was a Sunday dinner guest of Gladys Sheneman and accompanied her to the birthday party at the nursing home. On Friday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m., another showing of the development of the Potato Creek State Park will be shown at the Nature Center. Della Scott, of North Liberty, Denny and Janet Robinson, of Walkerton, Duane and Connie Guyse, Valley Center, California, David and Betty Shefferly, Laredo, Texas, Jay Scott, Tacoma, Washington, Jerry and Linda School, Ocala, Florida, all visited Jim and Janice Scott, of Fairbanks, Alaska, this past week. This was the 3rd reunion for the children of Della Scott, of North Liberty. There were 21 children and grandchildren there over the 4th of July. There next reunion will be in Walkerton at the at the home of Denny and Janet Robinson in 1995 on the 4th of July. Just want to say "thanks” to

Stan Leedy, Phil Johnana and Tom Kehoe, who are linemen out of Plymouth for NIPSCO. They came immediately when I was having trouble with my lights flashing on real bright every little while. They found the trouble in my blue spruce tree of which the cable to the house went through and found it to be worn in to from rubbing on the tree branches. So they put on all new cable and said it should do for the next 25 years. Just so it last till I’m dead and gone is all I ask. Ha, Ha. They are a great crew and need to be told so. Jane and Catherine Keefe, of Walkerton, were 90 on the 7th of July. Happy birthday and thanks for the delicious piece of birthday cake Sunday at the party. A lot of family members turned out Sunday for the residents birthday party at the nursing home for those celebrating July birthdays. There were 11 in all, namely Shirley Shaw, 63; Gela Northam,

74; Gladie Sprunger, 85; Jane Keefe, 90; George Stombaugh, 90; John Peterson, 76; Madeline Sorensen, 88; Martha Mull, 88; Helen Winegar, 78; Nellie Bennitt, 74; and Remus Carter, 85. Gladys Sheneman entertained on the piano after which Max Bigler, of Nappanee gave a very humorous talk on again. Birthday cake and punch or coffee was served by the Tri Kappa girls of North Liberty. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Vernon, of Westerville, Ohio, spent the weekendd with Roger and Fran Morris. Other Sunday guests were Mr. and Mrs. Rich Barenie and daughter Karen and Suzanne, of Plymouth. On Saturday, Bert, Dean and Jerry Morris called. Bob and Sunny Roush, of Indinanpolis, Roger and Arlene McCan, of Plymouth, and Gell and Marian Fouts enjoyed dinner together at Christo’s Restaurant last Friday evening in LaPorte.
