WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The Walkerton Town Council met at 7:00 p.m. on July 20, 1992 with the following members present: Gene Reese, Gordon Hartsell, Cheryl Rizek and Walter Heil. Attorney David Holmes and clerktreasurer Judy Hiler were also present. Gene Reese had a correction for the minutes of the June 15, 1992 Council meeting. Reese said that he voted against signing the Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the School Board, Park Board and the Council, and the minutes did not reflect this. The minutes for the July 6, 1992 meeting were approved as read. • The clerk and attorney Holmes are to meet with Mike Burroughs, Ist Source Bank, to discuss the fees and charges that will be made to our account at the beginning of the year. The contract that was made with Farmers State Bank concerning the interest rate and miscellaneous fees will be good until the end of the year. President Cheryl Rizek introduced the mayor of Walkerton, Canada, Jim Bolden and his wife, Pat. The Boldens are here to visit the Rizeks and other friends and to see us, their sister city. Police chief Gassensmith said that although he empathizes with those who own pit bulls and feels that perhaps some parts of the ordinance can be changed, he still considers them to be dangerous animals. He said that pit bulls are bred to fight and are very tenacious. One resident said that her pit bull is a source of protection for herself and child, and the dog is like a member of the family. Another resident said that pit bulls are bred to fight other dogs, and not humans. She said that any attacks on humans would have to be taught to the do by its owner. Rizek thanked all those who spoke and said that everyone seems to have a genuine concern. She added that the Council is only interested in the safety of all the people who live in Walkerton, and the input from those present has let the Council know how they feel and will be considered when the second (continued on Page 2)
