She currently is residing in New York City, where she has been awarded a scholarship by the Charles Weidman Foundation for further study. A 1988 graduate of John Glenn High School, Laurie is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. G. R. Hershberger. She began her dance training with Southold Dance Theatre in South Bend. LOCAL STUDENT NAMED TO BUTLER UNIVERSITY DEAN’S LIST Butler University is proud to announce the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 1991-92 academic year. Undergraduate students carrying at least 12 academic hours in a given semester are eligible to be placed on the Dean’s List in the college in which they are enrolled. The student must be in the top 20 percent of his college as determined by the semester grade point average of all eligible students in the college. Butler University offers undergraduates degrees from five senior colleges: Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Pharmacy and the Jordan College of Fine Arts. AREA STUDENTS NAMED TO DEAN’S LIST AT VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY Two students from the local area have been named to the Dean’s List at Valparaiso University for the Spring Semester 1992. Valparaiso University was founded in 1859 and purchased in 1925 by The Lutheran University Association. It is a na-tionally-recognized institution of higher education, serving approximately 3,800 students annually through its Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, and Nursing, Christ (honors) College, School of Law, and Graduate and Evening Divisions. Honored for the spring semester are Dawn Marks, Tyner, and Roberta Slusher, Hamlet. ON DEAN’S LIST AT BALL STATE UNIVERSITY Among the students named to the dean’s list at Ball State University for spring semester 1992, is Susan McCaffery, 208 N. Washington, North Liberty. Students on the dean’s list have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale while enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours. GRADUATE FROM INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY Students receiving degrees at Indiana State University’s 121st commencement ceremony May 9 gave president Richard G. Landini a standing ovation during an emotional last address to graduates. Landina, who retires July 31 after 17 years at ISU, charged graduates “to accept and fulfill the promise and potential at your disposal; to engage life fully, productively and passionately; and to put you learning to the improvement of our society and the welfare of all people.” Area students completing undergraduate degrees during this academic year are: Jon Scott Hall, 201 S. Maple, North Liberty, business administration; Brent Walter Szynski, 28300 St. Rd, North Liberty, finance; Brian Patrick Groves, Rural Route 4, Walkerton, management. U. OF INDIANAPOLIS NAMES SPRING SEMESTER HONOR ROLL Ninety-five students have been named to the Honor Roll at the University of Indianapolis for the Spring 1992 semester. The Honor Roll is composed of students who have completed a minimum of 14 semester hours (8 semester hours for extended programs students) with an academic index of at least 3.4 on a 4-point scale. Those who attain at least 3.7 are named to the Dean’s List. From Walkerton is Erin D. Ruff. JOHN GLENN GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP A SUCCESS For the second straight year over 80 girls in grades 3 through 8 have attended John Glenn’s basketball camp under the direction of Scott Hostetler.
