PATRIOTIC SERVICE SUNDAY AT SUMPTION PRAIRIE CHURCH Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Rd., South Bend, is proud to announce a Patriotic Service, Sunday, July 5, at 9:30 a.m. The National Guard Reserves, with Lt. Rick Nance, will provide the Color Guard and Cub Scout Pack 316 will lead the Pledge to the Flag. All service men and women will be honored. Special music will indude both instrumental and vocal music. Mr. Charles Emrick, of Wabash, will be the guest musician and will be featured in several patriotic numbers on the keyboard. Gary Kaser and his family band will present a special along with the regular musicians and vocalists of the Church. The sermon is entitled “The God Os Our Fathers”, by Rev. Warren D. Walmer, pastor. The publis is invited to this special patriotic service. For more information call 287-5890. HOLD FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY On Sunday, June 28, there was a first birthday party held for Travis Alan Jones. It was at the home of his grandmother, Phyllis Pohl. There were pony rides and a clown for the children’s entertainment. A cookout and three birthday cakes with ice cream were enjoyed by all. There were many guests coming from Grand Haven and Three Rivers, Michigan; New Carlisle, Tyner, Walkerton, North Liberty and South Bend. Travis received many nice gifts and we would like to thank everyone for coming and celebrating Travis’ first year.

JOHN C. KRING John C. Kring, 76, of Redwood Road, North Liberty, died Wednesday, June 24, in his home. He was born July 18, 1915 in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. He married Donna V. Korn on December 24, 1938, in South Bend, who died June 8, 1986. Mr. Kring was a farmer. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Knowlton, of North Liberty, and Linda Wood, of Monticello, Ind.; four sons, David, of Elkhart, Bill, of Greenville, South Carolina, Larry, of Bellevue, Washington, and Don, of LaPorte; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Muriel Yoder, of Goshen; and three brothers, Burr and Victor, both of South Bend, and Dr. Gerald G., of Ventura, California. A daughter, Diane Marie Kring, preceded him in death in 1943. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday in Ardmore First Brethren Church. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, South Bend, was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kring was a member of Ardmore First Brethren Church; president of the Greene Township Lions Club; former member of St. Joseph County Fair Board; former board member of Agricultural and Soil Conservation Society and the Farm Bureau; and was a member of the first St. Joseph County 4-H Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Greene Township Lions Gub. ONNA M. FEECE Onna M. Feece, 11, of 11958 Woodbine Drive, Koontz Lake, died Saturday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, of injuries suffered in an auto accident Friday. She was a passenger in a car driven by Dawn L. Wentz, 36, of Knox, who failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 600 North and Indiana 23, and struck a southbound car on Indiana 23 driven by Bessie Brewer, 49, of Knox. In all 11 people were injured in the accident, including Onna’s brother, Mathew Feece, 13, who was treated at Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox, and released. Three other children, Teelier, 3; Jennifer, 7; and Miriha, 16 months, all remain in the intensive care unit of the University of Chicago Hospital. Onna was born June 13, 1981, in Plymouth and was a lifelong area residents. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Dawn (Stiverson) and John Wentz, of Knox; her father and step-mother, Wayne and Lisa Feece, of Koontz Lake; two sisters, Teelier and Miriha Wentz, both of Knox; a brother, Matthew Feece, of Koontz Lake; a step-sister, Jennifer Wentz, of Rensselaer; maternal grandparents, Alberta and Fay Stiverson, of Celina, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Sue and Ted Feece, of Walkerton; and paternal greatgrandfather, Grant Steele, of Walkerton. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Koontz Lake Missionary Church, burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. The Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements. Onna was a fifth grade student at Oregon-Davis Elementary School, a member of Girls Scouts of America, Singing Sands Council, and of the Odyssey Music Program at Oregon-Davis Elementary School. ALDEN T. HOLMQUIST Alden T. Holmquist, 82, of Route 4, Walkerton (Koontz Lake), died at 5:51 Sunday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. H was born August 8, 1909, in Chicago and lived in this area since 1950, coming from Chicago. On June 27, 1931, in Chicago, he married Hazel Marie Almquist. She died January 31,1985. Surviving are a son, Ray, of

Walkertom nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, LaVerne Holm, of Plymouth, Elaine Schumaker, of Boulder, Colorado, andd Eleanor Wisner, of Zephyrhills, Florida. Two daughters, Joan Brown and Carole Muncie preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Tyner United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Mr. Holmquist retired as a tool and die maker from Martin’s Machine Co., South Bend, in 1974. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. ELMA C. TALBERT Elma C. Talbert, 90, of Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, died in Miller’s Merry Manor on June 10. She was the former owner of The Last Roundup, Stillwell. Mrs. Talbert was born August 4, 1901, as Elma Good, she married Michael Rosenbaum. He died April 26, 1960. In 1962 she married Walter Tennis. He died in 1966. In 1968 she married Tom Talbert. He died in 1969. She is survived by two daughters, Marion Tramm and June E. Janisch, both of LaPorte; a son, Michael “Mickey” Rosenbaum of Fish Lake; a stepdaughter, Ann Joy, of Hinckley, Ohio; six grandchildren; nine great-grand-children; two great-great-grand-children; and two brothers, Robert Good, of Hamlet, and Vance Good, of Knox. She was a member of American Legion Post 400 Ladies Auxiliary. Memorial services will be at 2:00 Saturday in Salem Chapel United Methodist Church, LaPorte. Cremation had taken place. The Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or American Legion. FELICIA F. FUTA Felicia F. Futa, 88, of Indiana 23, North Liberty, died at 12:58 a.m. Friday in Meridian Nursing CenterCardinal, South Bend. She was born September 6, 1903, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On October 29, 1923, in Terre Coupee, as Felicia Sokola, she married Roman M. Futa, who passed away June 28, 1987. She is survived by a son, Paul, of North Liberty; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hattie Jozwiak of South Bend. A son, Robert, died October 29, 1987. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the St. Mary’s National Catholic Church, South Bend, of which she was a member. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. She was also a member of the Rosary Sodality of the church.

Troy and Cherie Dillon wish to announce the birth of their son, Tyler Jackson, born Monday, June Bth at 5:35 p.m. He weighed seven pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. Tyler has a brother Neal and a sister Allison at home. Maternal grandparents are Alex and JoAnn Gemons, Walkerton. Paternal grandparents are Cathy and Devon Reed, Plymouth, and Ray Dillon, South Bend. A boy, Devon Mykel Lauderback, was bom on June 25, 1992 to Mike Lauderback and Tina Gingenpeel, of North Liberty. He weighed seven pounds, 13 ounces and arrived at 4:08 p.m. in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Grandparents are John and Janet Lauderback, North Liberty; Barb Lauderback, North Liberty; Tom and Jeanette Gingenpeel, North Liberty; and Twila Young, Rantoul, Illinois. The contest will be held on Wednesday, August Sth. Registration for the contest will begin at 6:45 p.m. and the contest will begin at 7:15 p.m. This contest is open to Youth, ages 7to 21. Each contestant must be an Indiana resident and winners will have the option to represent St. Joseph County at the Indiana State Fair August 12 - 23. A contestant may enter only once in any one category. The time limit is that an act run no more than 3 minutes. Competition will be divided into two divisions — based on age: Junior Divisions for ages 12 and under and Senior Division for ages 13 to 21.
