Scholarships Awarded To JGHS Seniors The total amount of scholarships awarded to John Glenn students in 1992 was $76,365. This amount includes local, state, and university sponsored scholarships. SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON On Monday wer were glad to have Hazel Schweder back after being ill the week before. She told us some funny stories and jokes. Harold takes care of the books. Tuesday Mr. Stuntz told us about "The Garden Os The Gods" and the "Black Canyon" in Colorado. He said there were 6,000 Indians living there. They have gotten 700 pounds of silver nuggets out of the silver mines there. Wednesday Jo, from the South Bend office, was here and read us some stories. Pat Cowger brought us some red radishes. Thanks Pat. Bob Schaeffer gave us some funny jokes and had prayer. Thursday Bob Schaeffer was the auctioneer at our bake sale and white elephant. We are planning to go on a trip this summer with the money. We had an excellent attendance and everyone had a good time. Friday we had our regular sing along with Verice Walz at the piano and Millie Daniels leading the singing. BETTER HOMES CLUB HAS FAMILY PICNIC The annual family picnic for the Better Homes Extension Homemakers Cub was Monday, June 23, at the home of Alice Walker. It was too cool for a patio supper, so everyone enjoyed a delightful variety of food indoors. Cheryl Flaugher and Rose Minter were cohostesses. Norma Eddinger presided at the meeting and was honored with the birthday song. Plans were discussed to sell Benson’s fruit cakes this fall.

Marty Mal staff reported on the recent County Council meeting. Ruth Ullery gave the family life report entitled "Invocation To A Parent". Vi Masterman reported on lawnmower safety. Door prizes were awarded to Rose Minter, Mary Lou Hiatt and Nancy Stickley. The next meeting will be a 6:00 p.m. supper of finger food at the camper of Marty Malstaff at Jellystone Park on Monday, July 27. Gyde and Vickie Lancaster, of Lakeville, are the proud parents of a healthy little boy. Zachary Gyde was born at 8:30 p.m. on June 12, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Zachary weighed nine pounds, three ounces and was 20” long. Proud grandparents are Gyde and Virginia Lancaster, of North Liberty; Mr. Tom Knapik, of South Bend; and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bridges of South Bend.
