Tri Kappa Chapter Issues Five Scholarships Walkerton’s Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa is pleased to announce the annual scholarship winners for 1992. The Marjorie Eiler Memorial Scholarship was awarded this year to Tim Pletcher. Tim is the son of Dirk and Kay Pletcher of Walkerton. Tim was very active in extra-curricular activities during his years at John Glenn High School, and graduates as valedictorian of his class with a perfect 4.0 grade average. He has been accepted as a scholarship student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and plans to major in chemical engineering. The Elizabeth Orcutt Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Rebecca Mollenhauer. daughter of Michael Mollenhauer and Ellen Miller. She has been very active in community service activities. She has been accepted at Holy Cross College and plans to prepare for a career in architecture. The Epsilon Chi Members Scholarship was awarded to three students this year. Receiving the awards are Ryan Peterson, Beth Gee and Dawn Keck. Ryan Peterson is the son of Richey and Sandy Peterson of Walkerton. He was very active in extra-curricular activities and received many honors. He has been accepted at the University of Indianapolis and plans on entering the field of physical therapy. Beth Gee is the daughter of Melvin and Carole Gee of North Liberty. She has been active in extra-curricular and community service activities, and has received many academic awards. She plans on attending Purdue University to major in chemical engineering with intent to further her studies to become a neurosurgeon. Dawn Keck is the daughter of Robert Keck and Roberta Keck. While a student at John Glenn, Dawn was involved in many extracurricular activities in addition to being an excellent student. She has been accepted at Purdue University to study aerospace engineering and hopes to be a part of our national space program. Epsilon Chi is proud to award 51,600 in scholarships this year to an extremely deserving group of
■ - young men and women, and wishes them the determination to succeed in their future endeavors. Epsilon Chi also wishes to thank the community for their support in helping to raise funds so that these scholarships may be provided. TRI KAPPA NEWS Zeta Pi Tri Kappa met June 10 at the North Liberty Community Center. Prior to the meeting Pam Wallace, spokesperson for the Charity Committee, introduced Mr. John Feldcamp, manager Community Resource Development, a division of United Way, who spoke on the 8.A.8.E. program. Its purpose is to provide new and used baby clothing and equipment to women and families that can’t afford such items. A question and answer period followed. Joyce Liggett, president, opened the business meeting with song and verse. Roll call was answered by 22 members. All officers gave their reports. Irinda Slater announced she had presented the Savings Bonds to the sixth grade awardees, namely Dan Klute and Sonya Wines, on May 22. Discussion was held concerning the Potato Creek Festival. Winner of the 50-50 drawing was Pam Wallace.

The Town Improvement Committee, Kay Hickman and Pam Dosman, reported the flowers have been planted in the city park and also in the planters downtown. This is an annual project of Zeta Pi. The president announced that Province Convention will be held November 14. Any member who would like to enter art, crafts, needlework or photographs should be thinking of their entry and get proper forms filled out. The pledge tea date will be announced later. The meeting ended with all reciting the closing verse. The following officers were installed: president, Sandy Gingenpeel; vice-president, Sue Crone; treasurer, Pam Wallace; recording secretary, Valerie Stewart; and the corresponding secretary will be Thelma Stachowski. Joyce presented members with gifts for belonging five, 10 and 15 years. Martha Gark and Alice Quigley were both 15 years members. The president gave all of her officers gifts as well. Lovely refreshments were served by Alice Quigley and Martha Gark. The next regular meeting will be held August 12.

POWWOW WITH BOOKS — OB MAYBE BOWWOW The theme for the Walkerton Public Library’s summer reading program is “Pow Wow With Books”, but this week’s movie fits better with bow-wow. This Friday, June 19, from 2:30 to approximately 3:45, the library will show Walt isney's classic ”101 Dalmations”. Taken from the book by the same name this story tells about 2 dogs adventures while trying to find their stolen puppies. The movie is free to everyone, but children under age 6 must be accompanied by an adult.
