Okwede received an appointment at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. He is a 1991 graduate of John Glenn High School. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT CHURCH OF CHRIST STARTS JUNE 15 "Together in Jesus’ Name" is the theme for the Vacation Bible School sponsored by North Liberty United Methodist Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church. It will be June 15-19 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. Casses will be available for nursery through sixth grade. The lessons focus on exploring Jesus’ message and seeing how it shapes our lives. We will also meet followers of Jesus and learn how Jesus equipped them to be disciples; grow as a caring community; and celebrate Jesus in our lives. The daily stories include Jesus the Good Shepherd; Jesus' appearances to Mary, the disciples, and Thomas; the lost son; Jesus heals the ten men; and the conversion of Lydia. UREY SQUAD SECOND IN COUNTY MEET The boys 7th and Bth grade track team on May 20, finished second in the Marshall County track meet. Bremen won the title with 118 points with Urey second with 84, Culver third, 59; Triton fourth, 54; LaVille fifth, 48; and Argos sixth, 17. The coach’s comments were: "We’ve showed improvement all year long and it was noticeable in this meet. Some great efforts given by everyone. Represented Urey in excellent fashion. Great year guys! 7-4." Unofficially two records were set: Medich in the 50 meter and the 400 meter relay team of Pippenger, Pontius, Groves and Medich. Individuals scoring for Urey included: First — Jason Knepp, shot put. Second — Nick Medich, 50; and 1,600 meter relay team of J. Hall, S. Bonnell, M. Day and M. Bowen. Third — S. Savoie, shot put and discus; N. Medich, 100. Fourth — D. Groves, long jump and 200 meters; D. Walter, shot put; E. Pontius, high jump; E. Gark, hurdles; M. Day, 800; M. Bowen, 1600 meters; and 400 meter relay team of J. Pippenger, E. Pontius, D. Groves and N. Medich. Fifth — D. Guseilla, discus; S. Bonnell, high jump; J. Pippenger, hurdles. Sixth — D. NORTH LIBERTY CLASS OF 1942 HOLDS REUNION The North Liberty graduating class of 1942 had a get-together Saturday afternoon, June 6, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the old Newsstand Restaurant known now as Nancee's Case, in North Liberty. The class was surprised by the appearance of Rev. Frank Dauner, and wife Jane, of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Mr. Dauner was the class sponsor. Those attending were Herbert Anderson and wife Delores; Dale Knepp and wife Marge; Harold and Martha Ames Gark, from North Liberty. Marietta Rodgers Toelle, of New Carlisle; Gloria Rupe Milner, of Knox; Lisa Wharton Chamberlain, of Renssealear; Helen Newcomer Burkholder, of Plymouth; Dr. Ralph Hartsough and wife Betty, of Lakeville; Leona Ethel McGwinn Holderread and husband Kenneth, of Goshen. Also Ruth Banes Bauman and husband Bill, of Florida; Phyllis Bales Buchtel and husband Dale, of Mishawaka; Branson Hiatt and wife Mary Lou, Byrdie Driebelbus and husband Morris and Myrna Williams Daube of Walkerton. The afternoon wasn’t long enough for the reminiscing, taking pictures and looking at old pictures. Some of the classmates hadn’t see each other for the 50 years. A wonderful time was had by the class sharing memories and enjoying the food and punch. The class then attended the Alumni Banquet at Holy Family Church and visited some more. Walmers To Celebrate Their 45th Anniversary Rev. Warren and Josephine Walmer will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary at a dinner party, at Tippecanoe County Gub, June 8. Rev. Walmer is pastor of Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Road, South Bend. They have three married children, James L. Walmer, Robert G. Walmer and Sharon K. Wilson, all of Warsaw, Indiana. They also are the grandparents of 10 grandchildren. “We have enjoyed living and working in this general area, since being appointed to this charge about a year ago. We have found the people of Greene Township and North Liberty to be very friendly," said Rev. Walmer. "We are looking forward to many more years. Participants in the annual ceremonies included students who completed their degree work in December 1991, May 1992, and those who will complete their degree work in August 1992.
