Everytime I see another store closing, I feel very sad. We were told that if we had pretty street lights and new sidewalks that business would boom in the area. How many more shops have to close before we realize that trees don’t bring customers? The only thing that keeps business going are customers. Customers are loyal citizens and area residents who like to shop locally. They are people who like to be called by name when they walk into the shop. We fight over school teachers, building of a new school, town board, and a large amount of other things. When are we going to fight to save my town, Walkerton? The only way that we can have our town, is first to make it every one’s "my town". We need to become more loyal to it. The shops and stores need to become more loyal to its citizens and customers by hiring friendly help and stocking goods that we can use. I like to stop and have a cup of coffee or a meal in town while I’m running the streets. But after two p.m., I can’t even do this. Business and customers, when are we going to fight for "My Town”? The Friends of the Fourth have been working very hard to set up a great program for the 4th of July. Morris is getting the flea market going. The placemats will soon be printed. We still have candy bars. Raffle tickets will soon be out and so will II We finally have our garden plowed. Now maybe we’ll get it planted. 1 swapped onions sets for green pepper plants. I only have 25 pounds of onions to sow. My pansies are blooming and the trees are shooting leaves. Maybe I’ll raise something after all. It was almost hometown week at

Memorial Hospital last week. We were up visiting our son, Greg, who was in for observation, when we saw Mrs. Brown, and Joe Karasek came over and told us that Beth was there too. Greg is home now. Thankfully it wasn’t his heart. 1 knew that because I’ve always said he didn’t have one. Mrs. Brown was getting better and I don’t know anymore about Beth. I don’t like hospitals because there’s always people there that I care about. Be careful on the road and sidewalks. The kids are out of school. Sincerely, Nedra Williams R.E.A.L. SERVICES NEWS WALKERTON Everyone celebrated Memorial Day on Monday as they liked, as REAL Services was closed. Tuesday, Mr. Stuntz brought two of his cousins from Tennessee as guests. He talked to us about Arizona, also about how beautiful the Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest was. He also told us the oldest Indian village was located there and also their main source of income was citrus fruit and beef cattle. On Wednesday we had our birthday party for the month of May, honoring Jim Capes, Katie Capes, Rose Taylor and Elinore Leming. Florence Seeking surprised us by coming in to play the piano and sing for us. Thursday Mr. Gwin talked about how people now have an anti attitude about the people who run for office. He also told us a good joke. We had juice give away and winners were Jim Clapper and Robert Schaeffer. On Friday Imogene and Leon McKesson brought in two guests, Mrs. Hawthorne, who played the piano, and Mr. Hawthorne who played the saxophone. We enjoyed them both very much. Come on out Seniors and enjoy the fellowship, food and entertainment. We will be looking for you. Tuesday and Thursdays those who wish to stay and play cards.
