NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sbeneman Well, May is almost gone and boy, do we need rain in this area. Sure was a cold weekend and 1 mean cold, as many Potato Creek campers returned home Sunday, as it was just too cold to eat out and enjoy being out in the park. A huge crowd was present Memorial Day fishing, having family gatherings, bicycling and may attended the colorful slide show focusing on the development of the park, at the Nature Center, which was very interesting. Gary and Madelyn Nelson, Joan Koenig and Gladys Sheneman were dinner guests last Wednesday of W You’ve come a long way and we know you’ll go far. Koontz Lake Supermarket St. Rd. 23 Koontz Lake

Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, in Wakarusa. After dinner they entertained the residents with music and the residents modeled hats an then picked out one they looked best in and then were all judged and given a prize. It was a fun day as Gladys got to see her cousin, Ada Beehler, who is a resident there and the Nelsons ate dinner with two of their friends, Mary Myers and Uretha Mishler, who also have their own apartments at the home. A large crowd attended the Memorial Day service held at the Eastlawn Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Veterans, Boy Scouts and the John Glenn Band played and marched in the parade. Rev. Tim Stewart was guest speaker. The event was sponsored by the American Legion Post 365 and V.F.W. Post 1954 of North Liberty. Spin Hevel who was celebrating her 75th birthday was an honored guest Sunday at the home of her son, Duff and family. Thirty-one were present to enjoy the pot luck dinner. Her daughter, Betsy, from Oklahoma, and her brother, Frisk and his wife from Ohio were also present. Spin received many lovely gifts and even though the weather was cold outside, they all enjoyed the day together inside. Congratulations also to Stanley and Iva Pommert, on Pierce Road, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday afternoon with many relatives and friends attending. Best wishes also goes to Richard and Ruth Roush, of Smilax Road, who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 31st. Sincere congratulations goes to Dan and Irene Roser as they celebrate 64 years together on Tuesday, May 26. That’s great, God bless you. Did you notice in the paper that the soda fountain is opening for the summer at Liberty Drugs. Please drop in for a soda and a tune from the old time piano. Rev. Brian Henry and family, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, spent the weekend with his parents, George and Wilda Henry and family. On Sunday he delivered a wonderful memorial message at the Church of Christ. Gene and Norma Patrick and Duff and Diane Hevel spent Thursday in Indianapolis at the race track.
Just want to say a big "thank you” to Jamie Hevel, who mows the Eastlawn Cemetery and to Barney Wentz who mows the Westlawn Cemetery. So many have said they look the best ever. Thanks, guys, for a job well done. Sunday, June 7, the Olive Branch Church will hold morning service at 8:30 a.m. for the campers at Peppermint Hill Picnic Shelter in Potato Creek State Park. Our sympathy this week goes to the Frances Slattery family as she passed away at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home after being a resident there for the past year and a half. She would have been 96 the first of June. Her funeral was Saturday. She was a lovely person and is going to be greatly missed by all of her friends and loved ones. James Gamer, of Lake Wales, Florida, is her visiting his mother, Best wishes ' GBADS We know you’re headed for success. Congratulations. P & H Machine Co. U.S. 6 East Walkerton outai IW« TERRIFIC!
