WALKERTON TOWN BOARD MEETING The Walkerton Town Council met at 7:00 p.m. on May 18, 1992 with the following members present: Gene Reese, Gordon Hartsell, Leonard Jaske and Walter Heil. Attorney David Holmes and clerktreasurer Judy Hiler were also present. Len Jaske, vice-presi-dent, called the meeting to order. The minutes were approved as corrected. The clerk told the Council that there is a typing error in the minutes of last meeting. In the following sentence the word able should be substituted for the word unable. Through the efforts of Behr and Jeff Zehner the Town was unable (able is the correct word) to secure a $35,000.00 grant to pay for Phase 11. Len Jaske said that Jeff Baker had notified him that he would be unable to attend this meeting, as he has another meeting to go to. The clerk was told to notifiy Baker to attend the June 1, 1992 meeting. AMBULANCE: Jean Brownlee has also contacted Jaske with the number of EMTs who are getting the Hepatitis B shots. There are 17 EMTs who are going to get the shots. The clerk said that she had given each department head a supply of waivers that have to be signed by those who refuse to get the shots. The Council decided to set a deadline of June 30, 1992 for the shots and waivers. Employees, who are required to get the shots, must have them by June 30th, or have a signed waiver on file in the clerk’s office. All of this is to be coordinated through police officer Jim Eikelberg. CITIZEN’S INPUT: The pastor from the United Pentecostal Church asked if water and possible sewer lines can be run to their parsonage on Lake Street. They currently have well water, which they find unacceptable. They are also considering building a new church at that location. Last year superintendent Back had gotten a materials estimate of $4,000.00 to $5,000.00 for water lines to that area. It had been decided, at that time, that the project was too expensive and would not be cost effective. Len Jaske pointed this out, and it was decided that Back should bring more exact figures to the next meeting. Attorney Holmes suggested that the pastor of the church contact several of his neighbors to see if they would also be interested in city water. Howard Louderback, 1210 Ohio Street, asked the Council if it would be possible to have the Fire Department burn some piles of brush and litter that are behind the 1200 block. Louderback said that someone from the Police Department had talked to him about cleaning up" the area. Louderback added that the pile of debris is infested with rats and groundhogs. After some discussion, it was determined that this is the same debris that John Webster had come in about last year. The clerk was toia to check the minutes to see what was told to Webster last spring. It was felt that the landowner would be responsible for clean up, and the tenant should refer any complaints (continued on Page 12)
