MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM SET IN WALKERTON Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it is sometimes called, dates back to 1865 when a school teacher, Miss Nora Davidson, led her students to the cemetery at Petersburg, Va., to decorate the graves of fallen Confederate soldiers. Through the years, the date has been changed by Congressional action. Today, this same tradition is carried out throughout the country. You may drive by any cemetery and see memorial wreaths and American flags standing erect on each veteran’s grave. Flowers are scattered upon the water in memory of the sailor dead. This respect is paid to our millions of Americans who sacrificed their lives so that we may live in the free country we have today. It is our Christian and American obligation to honor these who died fighting for freedom and democracy, whethere they died 50 years ago or last week. One hour a year on Memorial Day is a very small token to give to those who gave their all for us. A Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 25, in Walkerton, is being planned by the American
