It was off to the races on Saturday, April 25, as one by one, the Cub Scouts of Pack 241, North L.iberty, weighed in their cars before the race. Excitement was high while watching the starting gate raise and the first set of cars whiz down the 36 foot wooden track. Parents, brothers and sisters were among the cheering spectators to watch the dueling teams of cars reach the finish line. The final race ended with Giff Slater and his Hot Orange Flash taking first place. Patrick Crone raced a close second with the Black Widow Spyder. Most original design went to Frank Andert, with his car named. In Your Face, and best of show was won by Philip

Those competing in this year’s race were: Matt Alspaugh, Frank Andert, Patrick Crone, Philip Crone, David Malkowski, Andy Morris, Bill Nelson, Adam Rosander, David Rosander, Giff Slater and Josh Snyder. All of their cars were neatly designed to look like top speed racers and each of the scouts did a fantastic job racing them. Free four-hour tours of South Bend, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County, including North
Liberty and Walkerton as well as Koontz Lake, will be taken on Tuesday and Thursday, May 5 and 7. The County tour, which departs from United Limo, will be from 8:00 a.m. and another at 1:00 p.m. To make reservations or for more information call the Convention and Visitors Bureau at (219) 234-0051. Refreshments and snacks will be served along with information packets and discount coupons. 1992 UREY PHYSICAL EXAMS FOR 7TH GRADE STUDENTS Urey athletic physicals will be given at John Glenn High School on Monday, May 11, starting at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Engel, Dr. Hershberger and Dr. Tacket will administer the examinations. Urey students entering the Bth grade in 1992-93, who plan to participate in athletic activities, may obtain an athletic physical by completing the student and parent section of the IHSAA physical form, available at John Glenn or Urey, and returning it with a 57.00 fee. The physical form and fee must be returned to the office at Urey Middle School by noon on Friday, May 8. Checks may be made out to Urey Middle Schocl.
