Delegates Return From Stericycle Plant Visit The six delegates who traveled to Morton, Washington to visit the Stericycle Plant to see the facility and get the facts from the people of Morton, returned home Sunday evening from their three day trip. The delegates were Dr. George Plain, St. Joseph County Health Officer; Thomas Daughtery, North Liberty Town Council member; Jami Vanden Boosche and John Wilcox, two neighbors of the North Liberty Industrial Park; Richard Sumpter and John Harbaugh, members of the North Liberty Development Corp. Board and Chamber of Commerce Board. The delegates will be making their reports on the trip at a public meeting to be held Friday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the North Liberty Community Building. There will be representatives from Stericycle present at this meeting. The Development Corporation Board of Directors met on Monday morning to make plans for the Friday evening meeting and hear a preview report on the trip. However no decision will be made until after the May Bth public meeting. John Glenn Spring Spectacular Set For Friday, May 8 The John Glenn High School Music Department proudly presents Spring Spectacular. Spring Spectacular will be performed this coming Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. This is an extravaganza unmatched by any other performance at John Glenn High School. This year’s performance features the many talents of the Rhythm Express and the Jazz Band. There are also many students who work behind the scenes participating as members of the stage and lighting crews. Highlights of this year’s performance include music from Glenn Miller, the Andrew Sisters, Cole Porter, Styx, the Mills Brothers, The Supremes and many more. Due to increased demand, Spring Spectacular will be featured on Mother’s Day and all mothers will be our guest. Remember, Spring Spectacular Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 10, at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be held at the John Glenn High School auditorium. Admission is $3.00. All mothers will be admitted free on Sunday. ANNUAL P.S.A. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET St. Patrick's Parish and School Association Annual Mother and Daughter Banquet is to be held Wednesday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Patrick's School Hall. The Parish and School Association will provide the meat, drink and table service. All attending are asked to bring a covered dish. Entertainment will follow provided by the John Glenn Music Department. Moss only grows on the North side of trees in open, dry country, not in the forest or on lowlands.

Q-D Odysee Music Spring Concert Thursday, May 14 The Oregon-Davis Odysee Music will present their spring concert on Thursday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held at OregonDavis Elementary in the auditorium/gymnasium. Odysee Music consists of 23 musically gifted students. These students were selected from the 72 who auditioned for the program. They were selected based on the natural ability which was demonstrated during the tryouts. The students will be performing a variety of music, from rap to classical. They have done their own choreography and costuming. Student pianists will accompany the choir and also perform piano specials. Vocal soloists will also be featured. This is sure to be an evening you won’t want to miss! The following is a list of Odysee Music members: director, Dorene Simpson. MOTHER-DAUGHTER SUPPER The United Methodist Women will sponsor the church’s Mother/ Daughter Potluck Supper, on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m., in our new fellowship hall. Bring your own table service and covered dishes. Rolls and drink will be furnished. Dr. Hansen will entertain us with his birds and Bible stories. Borrow that mother or daughter, everyone is welcome. OREGON-DAVIS KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION Any parent who has a child eligible to attend kindergarten at Oregon-Davis in the fall of 1992 must attend the orientation on Wednesday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. This will be held in the elementary cafeteria. A child must be five years old on or before June 1, 1992 to enter kindergarten. At this time curriculum and screening information will be discussed and distributed. Appointments for individual screening will be made at this time. Screening will take place on Thursday, May 21. Appointments will be scheduled at 15 minute intervals allowing for individual attention and the avoidance of congestion. Children will be involved in: Hearing and Speech Screening, Health Screening, and Development Screening. A legal (not hospital) birth certificate and immunization record are required for registration. The birth certificate may be obtained by contacting the Health Department in the county in which the child was born. POPPY DAY MAY 23 Spring arrived several weeks ago for the American Legion Auxiliary, Walkerton, in the form of 1,400 veteran-made poppies. This annual event is the forerunner of Poppy Day by the American Legion Auxiliary. This year the distribution of the memorial poppy by volunteers, will be May 23 on the streets of Walkerton. In the several weeks until Poppy Day of the American Legion Auxiliary, keep remembering the sacrifices made by the many veterans of all the wars. PHYSICAL EXAMS TO BE GIVEN IHSAA athletic physicals will be given at John Glenn High School, on Monday, May 11, starting at 8:00 a.m. Dr. Engel, Dr. Hershberger and Dr. Tacket, three local physicians will administer the examinations. John Glenn High School students entering grades 10-11-12 in 1992-93 who plan to participate in athletics may obtain an athletic physical by completing the student and parent section of the IHSAA physical form, available at the high school, and returning it with the $7.00 fee. AREA STUDENTS INVITED TO JOD FAIR The third annual John Glenn Job Fair will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the high school cafeteria, in Walkerton. The fair is open to all Michiana area high school students. Career information, employment applications, summer jobs and displays will be on hand along with a pile of prizes. The fair is sponsored by the Walkerton Industrial Fund. J.G. ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT TUESDAY, MAY 12 John Glenn High School will host its annual Awards Night on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Organization and club representatives will present scholarship awards at the ceremony. Other types of recognitions will also be made to seniors. Seniors, parents and friends of seniors, and the general public are all invited to attend. Awards for the Academic Letters program will also be presented. Friends Os The Fourth Auction Set For May 16 The Friends of the Fourth Committee has been busy. We have several new fund raisers this year, one of which is an auction being held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the Youth Building. We already have quite a stash of goodies to be auctioned, and if anyone has items they would like to donate, we will be more than happy to come to your house and pick them up. You can call Betty King at 586-2435 to arrange for pick-up. We hope to see all of our friends from Walkerton and the surrounding area at the auction. Nedra and Barb have been working hard picking up donated items, and they really, really want to see a big crowd. Don't disappointment them! There will be sandwiches and snacks provided by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and you will be able to buy some of our delicious candy bars. They come in three scrumptious flavors: almond, caramel and crunch. They are yummy! And a bargain at just SI.OO each. Remember, the proceeds from our fund raisers go entirely to the cost of the July 4th celebration at the park, including the price of the fireworks.
