Team stated they received information of an elaborate marijuana growing operation at the Robert and Wilma Coldiron residence, Route 2, Box 301 -D, North Judson. The investigation revealed that an out building on the Coldiron property had been modified and converted into a greenhouse. Investigators found that the roof of the building had been reconstructed to absorb solar energy. Regulated electric heaters and exhaust fans were also used in the growing operation. Although the Crime Stopper tip cautioned officers of armed guards

outside the building and guard dogs, there was no resistence when the officers arrived, according to the spokesperson. Over 160 marijuana plants were seized, some with a height of five feet. According to the spokesperson each plant has the potential of producing a pound of marijuana. That's 160 pounds or a street value of over a quarter of a million dollars. The marijuana seized Thursday netted over 13 pounds, with a street value of nearly $21,000. Robert andd Wilma Coldiron could face numerous felony charges pending the results of the investigation, which has now focused on associates of the Coldirons. The spokesperson praised the officers that make up the Tactical Team from the Knox City Police, North Judson Police and the Starke County Sheriff s Department. These officers have devoted some long hours already and have been very productive. Besides the last four seizures they have underwent training seminars and team meetings. We definitely found an effective tool to use in the fight against drugs in our County, said the spokesperson, adding “If you’re going to persist in trafficking in illegal drugs, sometime, someplace, you’re going to be confronted by a dynamite team of officers”.
