HOLY THURSDAY LUNCHEON On Thursday, April 16, the students and faculty of St. Patrick School celebrated Holy Thursday in a joyous and prayerful luncheon. Prior to lunch being served, the children assembled in the cafeteria with Father Gene, pastor of St. Patrick Church, and all the faculty, fables were set in a circle, banquet style, to accentuate the spirit of community as must have been evident at the Last Supper when Jesus shared a meal with His friends. Mrs. Judy Rush made hot cross buns for this meal. She set these buns and a cup of grape juice at each place. Tables were also adorned with flowers and candles. Before the lunch, all present spent time in reflection over the solemnity of the luncheon. One representative child from each grade asked a question leading to

explanation of the festive aspects of the lunch. After a recitation of the “Übi Caritas" taken from the liturgy of Holy Thursday, everyone munched on the hot cross bun and sipped the grape juice while, class by class, youngsters came for their meal. As the children came to take their tray, Sister Dian, principal, washed their hands in sweet smelling water, reminiscent of the evening Jesus washed the feet of His apostles. Each teacher took a service role in drying each child’s hands and offering them words of encouragement and affirmation. Lunch followed in a festive manner. After lunch, the students remained at the table for concluding prayers and song. This rounded out the mealtime, arranged according to a modified Sedar which provided the setting of the Last
Supper on the first Holy Thursday evening. Children had an extended recess to accentuate the festive occasion
