< Mr. and Mrs. Robert Urbin hosted the monthly “Cousin’s Dinner,” on Saturday evening at Pat’s Bar, in LaPaz, for 14 in all attending. Cousins came from Illinois, Logansport, Rochester, Wakarusa and Mishawaka. Pearl Wooley is a patient in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. Beverly and Dean Johnson just returned from a trip to Texas where they visited with their son, David. David took them on a tour of the plant where he works at General Dynamics, which is in Fort Worth. Pauline Knowlton is a surgical patient in the Blufton Ginic, Blufton, IN 46714. She had hip surgery on Tuesday morning of this week and she is in room 2002. Please remember her with a card. HONORED FOR ACADDEMIC EXCELLENCE Carmen Manuel was among students recognize for academic excellence at Purdue University, last Friday, April 10. The honor convocation was held in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music. Carmen is a junior at Purdue and she is the daughter of Audine Manuel, of North Liberty, and Juanita Manuel, of Walkerton. School, a national home study school for fine artists at all levels. LIONS WALK The Michigan City Lions Gub is sponsoring a walk on Sunday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. Proceeds go to the “Open Door Health Center", in Michigan City. The walk will take place at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park, Porter. The fee is $9.00 day of the walk for the fitness walk; 1-3 or 5 mile tour-walk is $6.00 and students (6-18) tour-walk is $3.00. Children under six, no charge. Sincerely, Scott and Jill Hostetler and Family UREY CHESS TEAMS COMPETE AT STATE Three chess teams from Urey Middle School, each composed of five students, traveled to Terre Haute on Saturday, April 11, to compete in the state chess tournament. The tournament consisted of five rounds of play. Urey A team with members Al Gark, Brian Lyle, Steven Savoie, David Guseilla and Rusty Slater scored 3 team points and 10 individual points. Rusty Slater was undefeated in competition. Uray A team placed 12th overall. Corey Ross, Scott Rimbaugh, Nick Medich, B. J. Morgan and Rusty Young made up the Urey Bteam. The B team scored 2 team points and 9 individual points and placed 22nd overall with Rusty Young being undefeated. T. J. Jackson was the top scorer for the Urey C team.
