Mrs. Ray Coles, of South Bend, was a Tuesday afternoon caller of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Klinedinst. EUCHRE CLUB MEETS The Euchre Club met on Saturday night at Bryan and Marilyn Pugsley's. After our wonderful chicken supper we played 10 rounds of euchre. Doris Fuentes finished in first place with 80 points. Nancy Chapman finished in second place. Our newest member to the last place club is Brian Schmeltz who finished with a 57. We hope to see Dick and Diane Pippenger along with Pat and Roger Orcutt next month. We will meet again on April 25 at the home of Dave and Kathy McKesson. BABY SHOWER An after the birth baby shower was given on Sunday, March 22, for Julie Lytle at the home of Dixie Linback. The guest of honor was Joel Adam Lytle, who is three weeks old. Games were played and prizes going to Anita Campbell and Katrina Calloway. The door prize went to Elizabeth Linback. There were 21 guests present coming from Granger, Mishawaka, South Bend, Logansport, Nappanee, Koontz Lake and Walkerton. The shower was given by Julie’s aunts who are Dixie Linback, Marlene Linback, Jane Linback and Mary Linback. Refreshments of cake and sherbet punch, mints and nuts were served. Mrs. Gail Lawrence made the cakes. Joel received many nice and useful gifts. The weather cleared and the sun came out and a good time was had by all.

K. L. CONSERVATION CLUB DINNER SATURDAY NIGHT The Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner for Saturday night will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the clubhouse with Evelyn and Eli Sobat as hosts. ON DEAN’S LIST Anne Marie Crane, a senior at the University of Notre Dame, earned a place on the Dean's Honor List for the past semester. Anne Marie earned a 3.66 grade point average out of a possible 4.0. ENTERS PURDUE GRAND PRIX Fifty-six student kart racing teams have entered the 35th running of the Purdue Grand Prix April 4 at the West Lafayette campus. Daniel Strahm, crew chief, for the Carey-Meredith Racing team, is a sophomore at Purdue. He is the son of Sam and Barbara Strahm. Route 3, Walkerton. Qualifications for 27 of the 33 starting positions will begin at noon on March 28 and additional sessions are on March 30 and 31. The final six spots for the feature race, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. April 4, will be decided during three sprint races that morning. SUNBURST TICKETS ON SALE Tickets for the Sun-Burst All Star Game to be played April 3rd at the Joyce ACC are now on sale at John Glenn High School. Kevin Stedman from John Glenn will play in the boy’s game which begins at 8:00 p.m. The action begins at 6:30 p.m. with the girls game. Tickets are 53.00 for adults and 52.00 for students. John Glenn High School keeps the money from ticket sales made at Glenn so Falcon fans planning on attending the game are asked to purchase tickets in advance at the high school.

WOMAN’S COMMUNITY CLUB MEETS IN WALKERTON The GFWC Walkerton Woman’s Community Club met on Friday, March 20, at the Walkerton Community Building. In the absence of Barbara Simpson, president, and Carol Knop, vice president, the meeting was called to order by Mildred Casey of the Ways and Means/Finance Committee. Evelyn Sobat introduced her hostesses, Alfreda Onika and Gertrude Brehm. Devotions were given by Alfreda Onika, an article called “When We Pray”. Alice Walker, Arts Chairman, expressed her disappointment that so few local art students had participated in the recent art competition sponsored by the Woman’s Club on March 14. The winner was a senior from Riley High School. Final plans were made for the 13th District Convention to be held at the Presbyterian Church on March 28th. Mildred Casey stressed the importance of all the members’ participation. Those planning to help should be at the church no later than 8:30 a.m. Reservations were taken for the Gub’s breakfast at Al’s Diner at Koontz Lake on April 3rd at 9:30 a.m. After refreshments a Silent Auction was held for three tablesful of items donated by the members. UNITED METHODIST WOMEN MEET The United Methodist Women met at the Church on March 19. Our vice-president, Sherrill Kickbush, opened the meeting with prayer and scripture. Our president, Eileen Gark, could not be with us as she is recovering from surgery. During the business meeting the secretary, Mary Hahn, read the minutes and Cheryl Flaugher, treasurer, gave her report. Several announcements were given to put on our calendar. March 29th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., will be a Spaghetti Supper at the church followed by the Singspiration led by Sherry and Sharon Klinedinst. April Sth will be Lenten Services with speaker Rev. Curtis Sylvester at 6:00 p.m. with

April I9th will be the gospel group "Day Dawn", giving a concert at 6:30 p.m. April 16th will be the Passover Meal and program and the 17th the Good Friday Services at 7:00 p.m. United Methodist Women will have their annual Easter Bake Sale at the Farmers State Bank at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on April 18th. Our Day of Inspiration will be April 22nd at the South Bend Evangel Heights United Methodist Church from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Lunch is $4.50 or you can take a sack lunch. There is a registration fee of 50 cents. Babysitting is available. April 17th is the deadline for reservations. Call Cheryl Flaugher by that date. We have several ladies who will be receiving reading awards so please plan to go May 14th will be our Mother and Daughter potluck at 6:30 and program with Dr. Hansen and his Bible Birds. You won’t want to miss it. The program chairman, Mildred Smith, presented the Quiet Day Service title "Strengthening Ministry In Mission Schools and Colleees”. Those assisting her were Veryl Wathen, Mary Hahn, Vi Masterman, Opal Bullinger, Joan Haney, Byrdie Searfoss and Cheryl Flaugher. We closed with the song "Take My Life" and a prayer. EPSILON CHI NEWS Epsilon Chi of Walkerton held its monthly meeting March sth at 7:30 p.m. at Mary Hoover’s house. Eighteen members answered the roll call. Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was approved for audit. Cindy Keiper, corresponing secretary, read a follow-up letter from Rita Hagenow of LaPorte, Province Officer. Her comments on inspection were stimulating. A thank you from the John Glenn High School Academic Decathalon Team was read. A newsletter from Saint Patrick's School, and Camp Riley information was shared. Annette Heffelfinger, the Alcohol and Drug Committee chairman,
reported on statistics and terms used in the drug/alcohol world. The Fine Arts and Crafts Show will be Sunday, April 26 at the John Glenn High School dining commons. All residents of the John Glenn School Corporation may participate. There are a few minor revisions in the rules which will be published at a later date in The Independent-News. March is mental health month. Our annual mental health program was given by Josie Snell, chairman. Her topic was about the six biggest stresses in a mom’s life. They are: 1. kids, 2. lack of time, 3. husband, 4. finances. 5. housework, and 6. career. A few pointers for stress control are: get priorities straight, plan time for loafing/hobbies/ sports, recognize what causes you stress, build a strong support system, tap into spiritual resources and be aware of the 24 warning signs of stress. The nominating committee will present the 92-93 slate of officers at the April meeting. On Sunday, April 26, we will be helping with Miller’s Merry Manor birthday party. Verice Walz is in charge of the volunteers. Cindy Keiper reminded us to bring birthday cards. Spring is just around the comer and time to order geraniums. The five available colors are red, white, pink, fuchsia, varigated (pink/red). Geraniums may be ordered for $2.00 each from any Epsilon Chi member. Delivery is around May 6 in time for Mother’s Day. The final design for the Tri Kappa square is being planned and will be ready for quilting soon. The square will be part of the State Tri Kappa quilt to hang at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Hostesses for the evening were Mary Hoover, Cindy Keiper and Helen Savoie.
