Born on March 15-17,1919, in Paris, France it’s membership was opened to all Veterans who had served honorable in the armed forces in World War I. Membership has been extended through the years to include all wars, even to those who served in Desert Storm. Based on equitable treatment for all Veterans, particular the disabled, their widows and their orphans, the American Legion was also to promote patriotism and the combating of the materialistic and totalitarianism idealagies which recognize neither the honor nor the dignity of the individual. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was finalized at the St. Louis, Mo caucus. The Congress of the United States charted the American Legion in Sept. 1919 and the charter convention was held in Minneapolis, Minn., in November. In late 1919 the National Headquarters of the Legion was moved from New York City to Indianapolis. And to those of you who missed our birthday on Friday, March 13, too bad. You missed an interesting speech by the State Commander Terry Smith, and a whole bunch of good food. BOY SCOUT NEWS North Liberty Boy Scout Troop 241 welcomed five new scouts from North Liberty Webelos Cub Pack 241 on February 2 during the annual Blue and Gold Banquet. Those new scouts are Jason Beyer, Stephen Rick, Tony Wildrich, Brian Blosser and Brad Morgan. This brings the membership total to 21 boys and 14 adult leaders. On February 5, Scout Sunday was held at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. The scouts provided a short program and participated in the worship service. The troop spent a weekend in Jones, Michigan at Camp Tamarack camping, cooking, hiking and playing football.
