man was a relative of hers and that she used to live in the Pine Creek area and was the mother of Bill Baughman, who lived in Tyner. Everyone says she was a wonderful lady and would help anyone that needed help and that she died in 1939 and is buried in St. John Cemetery. Thanks for all your information. Over 100 relatives and friends met at the Community Center Saturday evening to honor Robert Overmyer, who was nominated by the Lions Cub to win the first annual Citizen of the Year Award. A catered dinner by Bob’s Country Store was enjoyed by all at 7:00 o'clock after which Craig Parmley, president of the Lions Club, presided. Our State Senator, Betty Lawson, of South Bend, was present and presented Bob with a certificate for the fine work he has done in the community. Major Craig Stoker, of the Salvation Army, from Holland, Michigan, praised Bob also for his contribution to the Salvation Army along with his wife, Dorothy. Other guest speakers were Gladys Sheneman, Maurice Quigley, Major Robinson, Anna Priester, John Sheneman and his sons, Stacev. Steve, Judy (Lappin) Overmyer and his daughter Susie Jones. The Lions
presented him with a beautiful plaque. Craig showed slides of Bob from the time he was a baby until now which all got a big laugh out of. Our thanks to Craig for a great evening. Betty Stombaugh celebrated her 90th birthday last Tuesdday over at Miller's Merry Manor nursing home with her daughter, Janet, and son, John and his wife Joyce Stombaugh, of Buchanan, Michigan. Other guests present were Bernadine Singleton, Faith Weller and Jane Pittman. Birthday cake was enjoyed by all present. All your North Liberty friends would like to wish you well on your 90th birthday. Jackie Singleton is feeling much better and is going to report back to work in Plymouth Monday for a few hours each day. Our sympathy this week goes to Betty Wharton in the loss of her husband, Howard. 77 years old, who passed away on Friday. He also leaves a daughter, Patricia. The Pine Creek Church is having a Swiss Steak Supper on Saturday, March 21, from 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. The menu consists of swiss steak, potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, salad bar and dessert bar. Sure sounds good to me and I'm going. If you like to go to auctions, mark it on your calendar, because Kaser’s are having another big auction on Sunday, March 29th, at the V.F.W. and will be selling lots of good stuff. There will be a memorial service at the Pine Creek Church on Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 p.m. for Jerry Whitmer, who passed away in Florida last week. Charles andd Helen Hensley and Wayne and Sandy Tumbleson are back from Florida after spending the past two weeks visiting relatives and friends. They stopped in Tennessee and Mickey O’Connor joined them. They stayed in Kissimmee, Daytona Beach and St. Petersburg, went to Sebring and visited Bill and Shirley Limerick, called on Harold and Sarah Kaser and in St. Pete they stayed with Lester O’Connor. They were all glad to get back home, but didn’t like our snow last Tuesday after arriving home on Monday. Eldon Clark returned home from Memorial Hospital last week and is slowly recovering from his operation. Remember him. Received word that Harold Rust, of Greenfield, Indiana, was a patient in the hospital there all last week. So please remember him. His address is 2004 Alexandria Dr. Greenfield, Inddd. 46140. Received a call from Ruth Cullar, South Bend, saying she didn’t know anything about Teegarden but remembered her father used to go there and see Eiigah Good. Well I was told he ran the saw mill. Hope that will answer your question.
