On Wednesday, March 4, Urey Middle School held its annual science fair. Sixty seventh and eighth grade students participated this year with questions ranging from the effects of acid rain to testing what type of music plants
like best. First and second place awards were given in both grades. Taking top seventh grade honors was Jaime Kotolinski with a test of the effects of acid rain and second place went to Joe Hensler for testing the optional popcorn popping technique and brand. Top eighth grade award went to Angie Houser for studying bread dough and second to David J. Guseilla for the conductivity of soils. Dirk Pletcher and Brenda Dyniewski judged the event. The above students are now eligible to represnt Urey at the regional science and engineering fair at Notre Dame’s Stephan Center on March 28. WOMEN AGLOW TO MEET Women’s Aglow Fellowship will meet on Saturday, March 21, at the Walkerton Community Building, corner of Washington and Ohio Streets, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Praise and worship will be held at 9:30 a.m. Speaker is Shirley Carnes, of Michigan City. Bishop Edward and Pastor Shirley Carnes founded the Community Center of Faith Church in 1976 and in 1981 they founded the Community Christian Academy where they serve as its first principal and administrator. They conduct annual marriage and family seminars, praise and worship gatherings, advances and revivals and evangelistic concerts. They are involved in their own television ministry called "Freedom Worship Hour,’’ which is aired weekly over the local Michigan City cable station, Channel 33. They presently are producing their own talk and variety program entitled "Cub Freedom’’ which is aired perioddically over access channel 27. Edward andd Shirley have both received a three-year ministerial degree from Logos Bible College and graduate school, Ft. Worth, Texas. Edward has also received a bachelor of sacred literature from Logos. Shirley received a business administration degree. You are asked to bring articles for the Christian Community Pantry. the engagement of their daughter, Julie A. to Todd C. Gierlowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gierlowski, of Gro vert own. The bride-elect is a 1990 graduate of John Glenn High School and she is employed at K-Mart, in Plymouth. The prospective groom is a 1989 graduate of Plymouth High School and is employed at American Door Co., in Walkerton. An August 8 wedding is being planned. GOUBMET CLUB MEETS The Greater Walkerton Area Men’s Gourmet Club met on Monday, March 2, at the home of Mike Daube. There were seven members present. Appetizers consisted of the now world famous crab spread and crackers, garlic mushroom rounds and burgandy meatballs. All enjoyed the next course of cauliflower cheese soup made with white wine. A fresh garden salad led up to the royal main course, a crown roast of pork with side of hot German potato salad and beans au gratin. A fine red table wine from the cellars of M & J was also enjoyed. For dessert a ginger-rum ice cream pie topped the evening. The next meeting will be on March 30 at the home of Joe Hunting.
