Recycling Days March 19 & 20 At North Liberty Come bring in the materials you have been collecting to be recycled to us Thursday, March 19 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. or Friday, March 20 between the hours of 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Building. Items can only be accepted at these times, do not try to bring them earlier or on different dates. We have been having this happen to often and the items can only be put into the trash. Do not waste the time and effort you have invested in bringing these items to us by dropping them off at an unmanned site. If there are no volunteers at the site, then we are not open. Items we are collecting are: Aluminum: Cans should be rinsed dean and smashed; foil should be rinsed clean and folded up; scrap (lawn chairs, screen doors) should be broken down and other metals (screws, screens) removed. Newspaper: Should be dean, dry and put into brown paper sacks. Corrugated cardboard: Should be folded down and all staples and tape removed. Glass (green, dear, and brown) oottles and jars: Rinsed dean with the lids and rings removed, labels can stay on, no dishes or glasses or window glass. Plastic (milk jugs, soda bottles, and detergent bottles): Rinsed dean with soap water, with cap and rings removed, labels can stay on, smashed down. Food cans (tin): Rinsed dean and smashed fiat. The North Liberty Recycling Committee is a volunteer run group that is trying to provide a much needed service for the North Liberty/Walkerton area. We need volunteers each month to keep the drop off site open. If you are willing to help support this project with your time, please write to us at North Liberty Recycling Committee, P.O. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP MEETING On Tuesday, March 24, there will be an Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting in the conference room at Miller’s Merry Manor at Walkerton, at 7:00 p.m. A most interesting video, “Managing Difficult Behavior”, will be presented and a time for discussion will follow. Some common feelings Alzheimer’s patients experience will be discussed and tips given to the care-giver in dealing with behavior problems experienced by their loved ones will be given. Topics addressed in the video are: catastrophic reactions, wandering, hallucinations and delusions, repitious actions, suspiciousness, losing or hiding belongings, agitation and restlessness. Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu, Walkerton, is very proud to donate again to our local schools. The amount donated so far this year is $6,200.00. The donations are REGIONAL CONFERENCE On Monday, May 11, at 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Indiana University Northwest Campus, Gary, the Sixth Chapter I Regional Conference for parents will be held. Parents have been extended an invitation to spend an exciting day at college. They will have an opportunity to participate in over 80 workshops to help them answer concerns about helping their child. Many outstanding speakers have been selected for their expertise and interest in promoting maximum student achievement and improved self-concept. The Chapter 1 Department will pay the registration fee for the parents of any Chapter I student. (Lunch is included.) Other parents are welcome but will be responsible for the $7.00 registration fee. Transportation will be provided for all parents attending the conference from our school corporation, if they choose. Registration deadline is Friday, April 3. 2tm26 CELEBRATES 7DTH BIRTHDAY A surprise 70th birthday party was held for Evelyn Eckstein by her daughter, Alice Conrad, at Park Jefferson Clubhouse, in South Bend. Friends from Chicago, Michigan City and the Michiana area attended. A delicious luncheon was served and many beautiful gifts were received by the honored guest. Find it in the classifieds!

Ray A Kenny's gives one percent of the purchase amount to the school of your choice. FINAL REGISTRATION FOR WALKERTON JR. LEAGUE Little League sign-up will be held Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Wednesday, March 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Walkerton Youth Building. T-Bali ages are 5-7, Minor league 8-10, and Major league 11-13. The fee is $15.00 or $25.00 for family. Registriation forms by be obtained at Walkerton Elementary School and Urey Middle School until April 1. BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE This summer we will be forming a beach volleyball league, on Thursday nights, here in Walkerton. The teams will consist of four person teams (2 males and 2 females). CHRISTIAN WOMEN TO MEET The Marshall County Christian Women will meet on April 3, at 7:00 p.m., at the Balloon Wurks Restaurant, Plymouth Holiday Inn. Cost for the dinner meeting is $7.50 per person. Theme for the meeting is Baseball Fever—Opening Nite. There will be no child care available. Prepaid reservations are necessary and must be received by Friday, March 27. Fire Destroys Part Os Hiler Home Saturday A fire at the home of Larry and Janet Hiler, Route 1, Tyler Road, Walkerton, was called in at 12:21 a.m. on Saturday, March 14. The Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene at 12:28 a.m. and flames were through the roof, siding, doors and windows with a 40 percent loss to the home. The fireplace acted as a fire wall to the other part of the home which suffered smoke and heat damage. The home was being remodeled with a large addition added. No one was at home. During the remodeling the Hilers are living in Culver. The Walkerton Department was assisted by the Polk Twp. Fire Department. The Koontz Lake Fire Department was on stand-by. Fire chief Jeff Baker would like to thank the Ambulance Service, Police Department, the dispatcher, Welco and Ray A Kenny’s. The firement left the scene around 7:30 a.m. The Fire Marshal's office will be investigation the fire on Thursday. W.E.S. SETS KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION On Thursday, March 26, the Walkerton Elementry School will be holding registration for students eligible to attend Kindergarten in the 1992-93 school year. The office will be open for registration from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To enter kindergarten a child must be five (5) years of age on or before June 1. A birth certificate (one issued by the health department in the county where the child was born) and a record of immunizations shall also be presented before the first day of attendance. Incoming students will be evaluated on April 13 and 14. Arrangements for the testing will be made during registration. DINOSAURS AT THE WALKERTON LIBRARY This week the Walkerton Public Library will feature dinomite dinosaurs during the weekly story hour. Children will hear different stories about dinosaurs, take a look at the library's dinosaur bones and get to make a movable dinosaur. Story hour is on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for children ages four and up. For more information stop in or call the library at 586-2933. POT LUCK DINNER SATURDAY A pot luck dinner will be held on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Koontz Lake Conservation Club. You are welcome to come and join us.
