and three granddaughters. Mr. Davis had worked as a Citgo station manager and retired after 26 years. GRADUATES Scott Rizek, of Route 1, Walkerton, graduated with an associate in science and bachelor of science degrees from Ball State University, Muncie during the fall semester. Diane L. Coddens, 64300 Thorn Road, North Liberty, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education during Indiana University degree requirements in December 1991. RECEIVE CERTIFICATES Tandy Technology Scholars, a program to recognize academic excellence, especially in the areas of mathematics, science and computer science, announced at a news conference on Feb. 26 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., that three John Glenn High School students received certificates. These students are Beth Gee, Michelle Lyle and Tim Pletcher.

Myrna Daube CONDUCTING NUTRITION EXPERIMENT Michele Weiss, teacher at North Liberty Elementary and Pamala Flatt, teacher at Walkerton Elementary, are participating in the Dairy and Nutrition Council’s animal feeding program. Dairy and Nutrition Council, Inc. provides schools with two female albino laboratory rats to conduct a four-week animal feeding demonstration in the classroom. During this four-week period, the rats are fed identical nutritionally balanced diets with the exception of the control rat receiving milk and the experimental rat receiving a sweetened beverage. Brandon Frazier, left, and Christopher Martin, right, serve as Pages for State Representative Gary Cook, on February 7 at the Indddiana House of Representatives . Pages are volunteers for one day during the session of the General Assembly. They are excused from school without being counted absent and are awarded a certificate signed by House Speaker Michael K. Phillips andd their sponsoring legislator to commemorate the visit. Pages help delivering messages for the representative, who must remain on the House floor for desee for themselves how the different diets affect the rats’ health and growth. Students also follow along with a video tape program and various classroom activities. In addition to the nutrition knowledge gained, the students learn to make growth charts, are introduced to and work with the metric system and accept the responsibility of the rats’ care. Dairy and Nutrition Council’s live animal feeding demonstration is designed to help educate and emphasize the benefits of a good diet.

The experience gives the students a chance to observe the General Assembly in action, to meet andd work for their elected officials and to tour the State House. Brandon is 11 years old and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Frazier of Route 3, Box 323, Walkerton. He is a fifth grade student at Oregon-Davis. Christopher is also 11 years old and the son of Ronald Martin. He is a fifth grade student at OregonDavis. He resides in Hamlet. DEMONSTRATION ON GRILLING Marrianne S. Kline, St. Joseph County Home Economist, presented a lesson, “Grilling On The Go’’ for members of Better Homes Extenion Homemakers Cub Monday night at the home of Ruth Ullery. She grilled several delicious items on an indoor grill including chili marinated turkey served with pineapple salsa, beef and plum kabobs with teriyaki marinade over the beef, and stuffed potato in foil.
