P.T.A. Reflections, Visual Arts, Jacinda Pairitz, Sarah Martin, Julie Holtz and Sara Holland. The Reflection! program is designed to generate creative efforts and to provide an opportunity for children’s expressions in the fine arts. There are four categories in the Reflections program: visual arts, music. Literature and photography. Work is created specifically for a Reflections theme. This year’s theme was "Exploring New Beginnings”. As a potential survivor, do you know your entitlements? Dependency and Indeminity Compensation (DIC) is the benefit payable under certain circumstances to a widow(er), children or dependent parents *hcre the veteran died on or after January 1, 1957, under one of the following circumstances: 1. During military service.

2. From a service connected disability. 3. At the time of death was continously rated totally disabled for a period of ten or more years. 4. Was so rated continously for a period of not less than five years from date of discharge. To qualify, a surviving spouse generally must have been married to the veteran for one year or more, or for any period of time if a child was bom of or before the marriage. The amount of payment will depend on the vet’s pay grade at time of discharge from the military. TRI KAPPA NEWS The North Liberty Zeta Pi Chapter of Tri Kappa met at the North Liberty Community Center, on Wednesday, February 12. Twenty members were in attendance. Joyce Liggett, president, was in charge of the meeting. After opening with verse and song, the officers all gave their reports. Sandy Clingenpeei, scholarship chairman, gave a very informative talk about the history of Tri Kappa state scholarships and how they have increased since first given in 1914. Many scholarships are awarded each year to students planning to further their education in drama, fine arts, nursing, music and other fields. The charity committee annouced that Christmas baskets of food and toys were presented to six local

families in December. The chapter is sponsoring a card party-salad bar on March 17 at the North Liberty Community Center. Tickets are available from any of the members. A raffle for cash prizes will be held also. The top prize is SI,OOO. All proceeds will go toward scholarships to local high school students. Patti Fisher announced that the Spring program for the children and senior citizens will be held at Easter time. Following the closing verse the meeting was adjourned and a Valentine’s Day Exchange was held. Delicious refreshments were served by Valerie Stewart, Marka Jackson and Donna Popovic. Joyce Liggett won the 50-50 drawing. The next meeting will be held on March 11. This will be an anniversary meeting and a fine arts program will be presented. Members are to bring their kitchen items also. Co-hostesses will be Lois Burkholder, Pam Dosmann and Judy Karst. Epsilon Chi was inspected February 6, 1992 by Province Officer Rita Hagenou, from LaPorte. Inspection is held every two years. Rite reviewed the books and forms with the officers at the home of president Kim Towle. Following inspection, the officers and Rita enjoyed dinner and each other’s company at the Hayloft Restaurant at Plymouth. At 7:30 p.m., the regular meeting of Epsilon Chi was held at the United Methodist Church in Walkerton. Roll call, minutes and treasurer’s report were read and accepted. Lori Jacob announced plans for the 26th annul Fine Arts And Crafts Festival to be held on Sunday, April 26. Watch The Inde-pendent-News for rules and details in the next few weeks. Several new membership forms were read. The new pledge manual was shared with the members. It was brought to the attention of Epsilon Chi that John Glenn High School has its first Academic Decathlon Team going to state competition this year on February 14 and 15. Lori Jacob requested a donation from Epsilon Chi to help defray costs. Motion seconded and carried. The annual geranium sale is underway. They have been ordered and we will be taking orders the next two months. Geraniums will arrive in time for Mother’s Day. Cindy Keiper reminded members to bring in birthday cards to be sent to residents of Miller's Merry Manor. We will be helping with the February birthday party. Scrapbook chairman, Valerie Wade, requested members to bring in any pictures, articles or keepsakes for the scrapbook. Any inactive Epsilon Chi members who have or know where other scrapbooks are, please call Valerie at 586-7170. We would like to keep all scrapbooks together. The square for the state quilt to represent Tri Kappa at Riley Children's Hospital is in the planning stage. More on this next month. "What is Tri Kappa" was reviewed: Tri Kappa is “to bring into dose, unselfish relationship for the promotion of charity, culture and education. "With 148 active and 138 associate chapters in 1 Indiana, this purpose is overwhelming met. Tri Kappa is 91 years old this year and the 100th birthday anniversary is in the planning. Rita reminded everyone "Tri Kappa is more than just donating money, giving of time and i self last indefinitely."
