Mrs. Vi Masterman returned home, on Friday, after a 2'j week stay in St. Louis. Missouri, visiting with her daughter. Mr and Mrs. Fred Shultz, of Chesterfield, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Shultz and daughter, in Baldwin, Missouri and Stacy and Chris Shultz, of Springfield, Missouri. Saturday, February 8. the Koontz Lake Conservation Club pot luck dinner will be held at the clubhouse beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Lucille Dickson as hostess. Come join us for a good time. RETIRES IN STYLE Friends and fellow officers from the Paw Paw State Police Fifth District Headquarters made sure that Det. Lt. Terry Anderson retired in style in December by sending a limousine to pick him up and escort him to work. Anderson has served the State Police for 25 years and most recently held the position as Commander of the Fifth District Polygraph Unit, in Paw Paw, Mich. Anderson enlisted with the Michigan State Police in 1966 and has since held positions with the West Branch State Police Post and at District Headquarters to fill a position as lab specialist. He earned a promotion to Detective Sergeant in 1979 and earned another promotion to his current rank as Detective Lieutenant in 1988. Anderson says that he has made no immediate plans for his retirement except to sleep later in the

X* b • ‘ 1 -F ' r iKr-/--Charley is a 1976 graduate of John Glenn High School. Charley then received his undergraduate degree from Ball State University in 1980. He earned his masters in Counseling Psychology from Ball State University in 1981. Charley has over 10 years of experience in individual, family and group counseling. He started Christian Counseling Services when he saw the need for a Christian counselor in east central Indiana. CCS was founded in 1985 and is a not-for-profit corporation that is supported by over 30 Christian churches and Churches of Christ in central Indiana as well as over 20 individuals. Chirstian Counseling Services maintains five offices in central Indiana in Muncie, Kokomo, Richmond, Winchester and Greenfield. Charley has his main office in Muncie. The office is located next to the Ball State campus. He also has an office at Macedonia Christian Church, in Kokomo. All of the counseling is Bible based and designed to meet the spiritual needs as well as the emotional and mental needs of the client. Charley’s associate, Sky Allen, counsels at the other three offices. Before founding CCS, Charley worked for three and a half years with a United Way agency as a counselor. He also worked at Notre Dame University in a three month summer employment as a group counselor working for a program designed to help teens think about their future and career
plans. In addition to counseling, Charley also does a lot of speaking on a wide variety of topics. Like his counseling, all of his topics are biblically based. Charley has spoken in Indiana, Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, Missouri and West Virginia. He spends many weekends doing seminars ranging from marriage enrichment to forgiveness. He speaks on over 30 topics. Much of his summers are spent with camps and conferences working with both adult and adolescents. He presently is writing a book entitled "Forgiveness Therapy - how to heal a bitter heart,” It will hopefully be finished by the spring of 1992. He has made a number of appearances on television and radio debating topics such as abortion and pornography. He also has done a two hour “call in" radio program on suicide. Charley has been married to Janelle Gerber for ten years. They have two wonderful children; Joshua, age five and Caitlyn, age two. COMMANDER’S CORNER In support of its traditional role of educating and assisting the positive development of America’s youth, The American Legion has undertaken a new project of getting the word out. The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, Inc., has purchased eight audiovisual education packets that include videotapes on problems facing our youth. The packets are available for free loan through the Public Relations Division at the National Headquarters. The videotapes, produced by Channing L. Bete Co., Inc., use a combination of peers, cartoons,

and authorities to enlighten our youth on the myths and truths on subjects such as drugs, AIDS, drinking and self-esteem. Each videotape is approximately 15-20 minutes long. Visual pause indicators are placed on the videotapes so a facilitator can pause the tape and ask questions, add addiitional information, or personalize and localize the material as necessary. Messages are clear and offer positive and reasonable advice in an easily understood manner. BOY SCOUT NEWS North Liberty Boy Scout Troop 241 recently participated in the Yellow River Klondike Derby at Potawatomi Nature Park on January 25. This annual event tested their skills of firemaking, first aid, knots and lashings, scout knowledge and sled construction made from natural products. Two patrols from North Liberty competed and the Golden Eagle Patrol placed second and the Snake Eyes Patrol placed seventh. Mother Nature provided the derby with snow appropriate for their sled competition. The boys were honored on February 2 at the annual Scout Sunday held at the North Liberty United Methodist Church, their sponsored organization.
