NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman A surprise birthday party was given for Loeva Kaser by her sons Craig, Garey and John at the home of John and Kim Kaser and Randy Ingle. Present were a sister, Jewel McGraw from Whitehouse, Texas, Craig and Cindy Kaser, from Olathe, Kansas, Garey, Nancy, Jeff, Josh, Jordan Kaser, Dick and Rosanne Vanderhagen, Billie Huff, Ruth Miller, of South Bend, Ray and Pat Carbiener, of Mishawaka, Mary Roush, Alfred and Gladys Sattler, of North Liberty, Kate Stone, and Helen Greer, of Walkerton. Please remember Ruth Cark as she still is a bed patient and has to stay in bed from her recent fall on the ice downtown, so she needs our prayers. Their son, Gordon, from West Lafayette, spent Sunday with them. How many of you readers remember Bill Rans bottom, who grew up around North Liberty years ago and then he moved to Loon Lake, Washington, where he passed away recently at the age of 80? His sister, Edna King, had a memorial for the relatives last Saturday at her home with a carry-in dinner. Those present were Everett and Vivian Huff, Lu and Bill Town, from Bremen.

Jennie Town, of Argos, Kenneth and Bernice King, of Niles, Michigan, Mable Pittman, of Berrien Spring, Michigan and Aletha Croy, of North Liberty. Mae McDaniel entertained the following friends in her home Monday afternoon, Iva Pommert, Pearl Newcomb, Martha McCrosky and Gladys Sheneman. A delicious cherry dessert was served before they returned home. 1 was amused at the article of Bag Balm in Sunday’s South Bend Tribune. That is an old product and its primary use was for irritated cows udders. But would you believe it also works on cracked hands and calloused feet. I had a friend who had the worst cracked hands I have ever seen, she tried everything and finally someone told her about Bag Balm. She tried it and it worked. Dave Craft, our pharmacist says he still sells it, too. Martha McCrosky was a supper guest Saturday evening of Gladys Sheneman. Ray and Evelyn Stoneburner, of Plymouth, spent Sunday evening. Over 2,000 people from a large area visited Potato Creek Park on Sunday. Some came to ice fish on Worster Lake, some to walk the trails for exercise, others came to look for the ground hog, see the deer, hunt for deer antlers that they have lost, others built fires and enjoyed keeping warm and eating out of doors once again, on

February 2nd. Can you imagine that? Dick and Madeline Bonham spent Saturday with their son, Bob and family, of South Bend, out of Potato Creek State Park in one of the lovely cabins. Madeline is feeling much better at this writing. Well, at least the ground hog saw his shadow. Do you suppose we will have six weeks more of winter? Well, I would rather have snow now than in April, because 1 can remember when we had some real bad snow storms in April. According to Mrs. Johnson’s diary from the Pine Creek area, they had an awful lot of rain and snow during February in 1892. Congratulations goes to Alfred and Vera Amm, of Michigan City, who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, at the home of their son Dennis, in Michigan City. They grew up around North Liberty and have lived at Michigan City for the past 35 years. Best wished from all your North Liberty friends. Gene and Norma Patrick enjoyed dinner Sunday at the Country Buffet Restaurant in honor of their 30th wedding anniversary. Gladys Sheneman accompanied them. Don't forget the benefit ham and bean supper on Saturday, February 8 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the North Liberty Community Center. This is to help the ambulance and

Indians Down Lady Falcons In Season Finale The Glenn Lady Falcons closed out regular season play Thursday night on the local hardwood with a disappointing 44-32 setback at the hands of the South Bend St. Joseph’s Indians. For the second consecutive game the locals battled their much taller opponents on even terms for three periods of play before being completely dominated in the final stanza. The Falcons battled to a 9-8 advantage after one period of play before settling for a 16-all deadlock at the half. St. Joe edged ahead 28-26 at the end of three and then the roof fell in on the locals as the visitors cashed in on eight of 11 charity attempts to out distance the Falcons in the final quarter, 16-6. Glenn is now 3-14 as it heads into sectional tournament action this week. The Falcons were paced by Michele Knepp with 14 tallies. The South Bend team was led by Erica Berger with 15 and Stacy Siport's 12 markers and closed regular season play with a 5-13
