FALCONS MOLD OFF BREMEN 57-51 FOR KEY WIN The John Glenn Falcons won a big victory over Bremen Saturday night as they traveled to the Lions Den and came home with a 57*51 victory. The game not only was a little revenge for the upset loss to the Lions in the Bi-County Tourney as they went on to win the title, but also kept the Falcons hopes alive for at least a share of the Northern State Conference. Glenn is now 11-4 with a 5-1 conference mark with a key showdown game with LaVille just a week away. Bremen is 8-7 for the season after the loss but only 2-3 in conference play and not a contender for this crown. The game was not an easy victory for the Falcons as Bremen led most of the way through the middle of the third quarter. The Lions had a slim 17-16 lead after one, with three three-pointers leading the way. By halftime the lead was stretched to 29-24 as Newcomb had compiled 12 of Bremen’s points and Toby Gardner was the key to Glenn’s first half with 10 markers in the first 16 minutes. The second half was a different story. The Falcons came out with a goal and they not only set eyes on it, they accomplished it. They outscored their hosts 16-8 in the third period to take a 40-37 lead as Gardner continued his good run with three more baskets and B. J. Walls had three, including two threepointers. The fourth quarter found the Lions partially self-destructing. A pair of t echin cals aided the Falcons who in the final stanza hit nine of 14 free throws, including two technicals, that kept them in the lead. Walls hit three baskets and Gardner one more and the rest of the 17 points were from the foul line on way to the win. Gardner, a sophomore, led all scorers with 23 points and Walls had 18. to account for most of Glenn’s points. Newcomb paced the Lions with 16 and was the only member of the team in double figures. Host Martan Friday The Falcons will only have one game this weekend as the usual lighter schedule this week hits boys basketball as the girls sectionals are being completed. However, the one game is a tough one as the Marian Knights will come visiting for a 6:15 B-Team tipoff. The Knights have both some size and talent and will provide just another strong challenge for Glenn at this key time of the season.
