On the 28th, a family dinner was held in the private room at The Cottage. All of those previously mentioned in this article were in attendance, and additional relatives joining the group were Regina Wells, June Malstaff, and Vivian and Marvin Williams, all of Walkerton. Sunday Mary Jane's entire family attended the worship service at the United Methodist Church, and then held an open house at the church for her birthday. A niece and her husband, Mary Margaret and Gem Metzger, of Leipsic, Ohio, and a nephew, Leigh Roy Hahn, with his wife Mary and daughter, Catherine, of Walkerton, were unable to attend Saturday's activities but were present for the open house. Granddaughters Judy Osterli and Patricia McCall served at the refreshment table. Many friends from the church, community organizations and her neighborhood helped to make the celebration of her 90th birthday a very special and wonderful memory for Mary Jane Beaty. She appreciated visiting with them and receiving so many calls and cards, especially those from former Walkerton students she had taught over the years.
