VARSITY BASKETBALL NEWS John Glenn’s Junior Varsity basketball team ran their team won and loss record to 4 wins and 2 defeats prior to Christmas vacation. Wins were recorded over New Prairie and Westville, before seeing their four game winning streak stopped by a 2 point loss to South Bend Riley. The Falcons travelled to New Prairie ready to play and outscored the Cougars 61 to 38. Russell Burch poured in 20 points followed by classmate Matt Elmore with 13. Randy Winkelman and Nathan Lichtenbarger contributed seven points each. Allen Crutchfield opened the scoring in the first quarter with a pair of three pointers. Andy Kaser, Ryan Walls and Brad Annis also scored for the Falcons. Elmore, Burch and Lichtenbarger collected five rebounds apiece while Jason Bare distributed a team leading five assists. Jayson Blaze led the Cougars with 10

points. „ Against Westville, the Falcons opened up from three-point territory starting the second half, erupting for a 17-2 third quarter advantage. In this quarter, Randy Winkelman tossed in two 3 point baskets while Crutchfield added another. Glenn was then able to coast to a46to 28 victory. Burch again led the Falcons in scoring with a dozen points while getting double figure help from Winkelman with 10. Other scoring for Glenn were Andy Kaser, Jason Bare. Matt Elmore, Nathan Lichtenbarger and Mike Nimon. Burch pulled down a dozen rebounds and Elmore led the team with five assists, followed by Crutchfield with four. After having little difficulty scoring points the previous weekend, Glenn struggled the entire game at South Bend Riley trying to get the ball to go in the basket. Within the last few minutes the Falcons were given six possessions to either tie or lead the game, but time after time, the ball rolled off the rim. Shots failed to fall in at the 12 second, the 9 second, the 4 second and even at the final buzzer. Exciting for the fans, but discouraging for the Glenn players, Riley prevailed by the score of 27 to 25. On Janury 3, Glenn travelled to South Central to battle the Satellites. The Falcons dominated the first half by the score of 27 to 9. Glenn struggled to regain that same first half intensity and held on to a 35 to 27 victory to raise their record to 5 wins and 2 defeats. Matt Elmore turned in a fine game with a team leading 13 points. Others scoring for the Falcons were as follows: Burch 8. Fisher 6. Walls 4, Crutchfield and Bare 2 each Glenn will travel to North Judson January 10 in what always turns into a tough road game. The following evening Glenn will host Triton. The starting times are 6:30 for each game.
