TRI KAPPA NEWS The Zeta Pi chapter of Tri Kappa had their regular meeting at the North Liberty Community Center on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 p.m. As this was October, we had our Halloween Party after the meeting. The Epsilon Chi chapter of Walkerton was invited to join us in enjoying refreshments and playing games. Several members came and we had an enjoyable evening. Costume winners were: most ugly, Joyce Liggett as a witch; most original, Anne Shortt as a dalmation firepuppy; cutest. Pam Dosman as a flapper girl. Co-hostesses were Sandy Gingenpeel and Valerie Stewart. On October 3, Epsilon Chi members of Kappa Kappa Kappa met at the home of Jill Hostetler for the 7:30 p.m. regular meeting. After the opening song and verse, the minutes and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Correspondence was shared from Kappa Konnection, Billie Creek Village Festival, North Liberty Zeta Pi, St. Patrick’s and the Walkerton American Legion. Information was shared concerning the Tri Kappa Art Show. This year's festival will be held at John Glenn on Sunday, April 28. Plans are underway. Final report was given on the Little League and a donation will be given to the Walkerton Little League as their profit from the summer sales. Epsilon Chi will be assisting with the Miller’s Merry Manor October Birthday Party. Discussion was held concerning the Young Woman of the Year project. Epsilon Chi will assit the committee for this year’s project. Silver spoons were purchased for the "new baby” arrivals of Epsilon Chi members. Kitty Holland displayed the tee shirts that will be given to participants of the "Pumpkin Peddler Bike Race". Kitty’s daughter, Sara, designed the shirts. President Kim Towle shared Providence Worshop information with the group and distributed package information with committee chairmen. Indiana's Tri Kappa will be preparing a quilt and each Chapter has been asked to prepare a 7 inch square that will represent their Chapter. Ideas from members should be turned in at our meetings and the square will be sent before the deadline of May 1, 1992. This project is part of the State Philanthropy Project for Ginic B ft Riley Hospital, Indianapolis. Kim also shared workshop information concerning insurance, State Scholarship guidelines and other Chapters
ideas. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 and refreshments were served. If anyone has any questions about Epsilon Chi or Kappa, Kappa, Kappa, please feel free to contact any Tri Kappa member and/or president Kim Towle at 586-7553. The next meeting of Epsilon Chi will be Thursday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. Woman’s Club Makes Favors For Holidays Friday, October 4 was a work meeting for the GFWC Walkerton Women's Community Gub. Mildred Nolcheff was in charge of the making of Halloween and Thanksgiving favors for the residents of Miller's Merry Manor. A lot of lively conversation accompanied the cutting, pasting and printing; it was a good work crew. The ladies brought a brown bag lunch but were treated a delicious pumpkin and apple pies and tea or coffee. Mildred McKesson was chairman of the hostess committee and was assisted by Florence Vische, Mary Steinhart and Selma Pry. Mildred McKesson gave the opening prayer. After lunch was over, president Barbara Simpson opened the meeting. Carma Larson read a very appropriate essay on the beauty of autumn. The secretary reported that Betty Weinman had resigned from the club. There was also a letter from Jane Hurly thanking the club for the flowers sent for her birthday . A moment of silent prayer was observed for Bernice Lichtenbarger who passed away in late September. Viola Bregi and Alice Walker gave short memorials of their memories of Bernice, that she was a fine poet and talented person who was quite active in the club for many years. A donation will be sent to the GWFC in her honor. The members unanimously approved the honorary membership of Ann Jackson who is unable to be an active member. It was also reported that Gertrude Thomas, a member of the club, is now in a nursing home in Illinois. Margaret Moravek, conservation chairman, presented a panel of information on conservation. It consisted of information on planting trees to replace those that have been decimated to make room for building, on feeding wild birds to encourage their numbers to increase, on composting and recycling. More and more ways are being discovered to use up what was once thought to be useless. She was assisted by Lucille Dipert and Nadine Keiper. Address books are still available for members to sell. Vice president Carol Knop can be contacted for these. The first ferris wheel was erected at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
It keeps more than memories alive.
