Hevel works out of the UPS facility located at 607 S. Scott St., in South Bend. INDOC AWARDS $12300 TO WALKERTON INDUSTRIAL FUND Lieutenant Governor Frank O'Bannon announced October 1 that the Walkerton Industrial Fund will receive $12,500 in Local Economic Development Organization (LEDO) matching grant monies from the Indiana Department of Commerce (IDOC). The LEDO grant program is designed to meet the administrative need of local economic development efforts that benefit disadvantaged areas. Community awards can run as high as $50,000. The organization must match each dollar of state funding with two dollars of local funding. Grants are available to assist in salaries, office costs and similar administrative expenses. "This program is designed to help communities throughout Indiana foster effective economicdevelopment programs, thereby boosting the state's economy," said Lieutenant Governor O’Bannon. “Last year, we provided almost $20,000 in LEDO grant monies to the Walkerton Industrial Fund, which significantly bolstered economic and community development in St. Joseph County. We hope this year's $12,500 grant will help Walkerton continue regional development initiatives and further enhance local economic opportunities.” Thirty-eight Hoosier economic development organizations will receive a total of $766,700 from IDOC during Round UI of the

LEDO grant program. This grant program is part of the five-point economic development strategy introduced to the 1989 Indiana General Assembly by Governor Evan Bayh and Lieutenant Governor Frank O'Bannon. To date, IDOC has granted a total of $2,766,700 in LEDO awards. Criteria for the award include strategic planning by the local organization and a three-year fiscal plan. These IDOC funds are supported by members of the Indiana General Assembly. Local legislators include: Senator Betty N. Lawson and Representative Richard W. Mangus. INDIANA OPERA OPENS SEASON “The Elixir of Love" bv Donizetti is to be presented at O'Laughlin Auditorium at St. Mary’s College. Notre Dame, on Friday and Saturday.
