Boating Accident Claims One Life At Koontz Lake A boating accident on Sunday, June 30, at Koontz Lake claimed the life of 34 year old Joyce Fraiser, of South Bend. Fraiser was killed when the tube on which she was riding along with Terry Rosander, of South Bend, was whipped broadside into a pontoon boat being driven by Jim McEndarfer, of North Liberty. The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene at around 4:41 o.m. The boat was driven by William Anderson, 33, of Walkerton. Also on the scene were the Indiana Conservation officers, the Koontz Lake Fire Department, three emergency medical services, and the Indiana Excise police. Both passengers of the tube struck the pontoon boat resulting in serious bodily injury. They were transferred to Holy Cross Parkview Hospital, in Plymouth and then later taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, in South Bend, where Frasier died as a result of her injuries. Rosander was admitted to intensive care where he is listed in critical condition with head injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. BAKE SALE AND RAFFLE The Koontz Lake Association annual bake sale will be held at Al’s Diner Banquet Hall on July 6 from 9:00 a.m. until all is sold. Donations of homemade bakery goods would be greatly appreciated and will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. at Al’s Diner. If you need someone to pick up your donation please call either 586-3913 or 586-2476. The association is having a raffle of a nine foot Bantom 3-X boat and hand transom 18-trolling motor. The drawing will be held at Stanley Marine, on Route 23, at 1:00 p.m., on July 6. Tickets may be purchased from all officers and directors as well as Al’s Diner, Stanley Marine, Dolly & Mac’s, Jim’s Barber Shop, G’s Dockside, Al’s Bait Shop, Howards Station and Keepsake Kottage. Support your association. Your memberships, donations and purchases go toward keeping the lake patrol car on the road as well as mosquito abatement and upkeep of the beach area. ASK YOUR PHARMACIST QUESTIONS! If you have questions about perscriptions, ask them! Ask your doctor and/or your pharmacist. Product name and purpose? Possible side effects? Possible allergic reaction? Dose size and when you should take it? (that should be on the label). Also, ask if you should avoid other drugs, foods or activities while you are taking it, and if a generic brand can be substituted. If you are a pregnant woman, ask whether it is safe for you. Also ask for written information about the drug. Ask up front! It’s quicker and easier. Besides, it's your money and your body, says Health News Network, the news service of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians A Surgeons. Shop At Home
