Leo Savoie, Jr., left, president of the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce, presents $250.00 to Dan Fortlander, director of the John On Tuesday, May 28, Walkerton Chamber of Commerce celebrated the last day of school with a "Celebrity Dunk Tank" party at the Farmers State Bank parking lot, in Walkerton. "Celebrities" dunked included Dick Reese, Pam Pearish, Gordon Mosson, Dolores Mueller, Dan Fortlander, Cathy Austin, Kenny Chapman and Leo Savoie, Jr. "The Elite", a local band, entertained the crowd and the Chamber sold pop as well . Glenn Marching Falcons, following a fund drive "Celebrity Dunk Tank" held on May 28 in Walkerton. raised $250.00 for the John Glenn Marching Falcons. The Chamber would also like to thank John Gouker of the North Liberty Fire Department, John McGovern of the Walkerton Fire Department, and Farmers State Bank for their assistance. The John Glenn Marching Falcons are raising money for their trip to Washington, D.C. to represent the state of Indiana in July. A cowboy's lasso is usually from sixty to a hundred feet long.
Rahnee Patrick To Attend Girls’ State r " k i Hoosier Girls’ State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, will be held on the campus of Indiana State University, Terre Haute, June 16 through June 22, with Rahnee Patrick as representative from John Glenn High School and Orville Easterday Unit 189. Over 800 young girls from throughout Indiana will learn of the objectives of Girls’ State, making them aware of issues and ideas which they never heard before. Patriotism will come alive and a new respect for "Old Glory” will be felt. From this experience they will take home with them pride in being an American, pride in our country’s value of freedom, our system of government and a need for leadership in our country. be celebrating 50 years of service to our youth. In 1941 this vital program was founded, being held each year excepting during the war year of 1945. Walkerton’s first delegate in that founding year was Jean Jones, daughter of Faye and Wayne B. (Jack) Jones. In these past 50 years, Orville Easterday Unit 189 has been the sponsor of 90 young women who attended the week long session of political learning, fellowship and the experience of respect and love for God and Country. Os the 90 past delegates, all representatives of Unit 189, have been located except four. Special recognition will be given to all past delegates and the volunteers of the American Legion Auxiliary at this 1991 session. Rahnee Patrick, student of John Glenn High School, 16 years of age, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Patrick, P.O. Box 88, North Liberty. She has been on the Honor Roll throughout her school career and is a member of the National Honor Society, being involved in many clubs, such as. Ecology Club, Speech Team and ' Spanish Club. i the Friendship yearbook, the I newspaper The Falcon Flyer and I the Aerial. She participates in the Marching Band and the Pep Band playing the clarinet. Chosen as the alternate is Michelle Hill, the 16 year old daughter of Charles and Jeanette Hill, Rt. 4, Box 433, Walkerton. Michelle is an Honor Roll student at John Glenn High School and is very active in sports, such as volley ball, basketball and track. She enjoys almost any kind of sport or any outdoor activity. Reading is enjoyed in her limited free time. Michelle plans to attend college and eventually become a history teacher. Hoosier Girls’ State is, without a doubt, one of the very best programs available to our young women of high school age and the American Legion Auxiliary will all of its many volunteers is truly doing a service by providing this experience each year.
