Joyce Knepp, of South Bend; and Karen Dregits, of Mishawaka, spent a very enjoyable weekend in Molien, Illinois with Betty’s niece, Sandra Lagomarcino, her husband Tom and children Cara and Lee. Mr. and Mrs. Norlyn McCormick and children, of Yatesville, Illinois, were also visitors. The ladies had a delightful Saturday shopping and touming Moline and East Davenport, lowa. The highlight was returning to the Lagomarcino Confectionary, which was founded in 1908 by Tom’s grandfather when he came from Italy. We enjoyed delectable creations of sundaes and sodas made with homemade ice cream. Needless to say we purchased some of the hand-roiled and hand-dipped chocolates from the copper kettle candy kitchen, where they use only the finest Ambrosia chocolate. Currently the third generation Lagomarcinos work in the confectionary, which retains an old-fashioned charm with the original metal ceiling, mahogany booths and tiffany lamps. 55 Saves Lives

BOY SCOUT NEWS Boy Scout Troop 241 sponsored by the North Liberty United Methodist Church has been very active the past few months. Last fall was highlighted by a weekend family canoe trip to Turkey Run State Park. A college of scouting was held by the LaSalle Council at Ancilla College and four adults received their Bachelor of Science degree. Ron and Irinda Slater, Bill Arick and Becky Ross. Troop 241 received a quality unit award for specific scouting achievements as required by the Boy Scouts of America. This past January, the boys participated in the Cherokee District Klondike Derby held at Eby’s Pines in Bristol. The scouts scored 255 out of 300 points placing fifth out of 65 patrols. This major scouting event tested their skills of compass, knots and lashings, first aid, tool and fire making abilities. In February, eight Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 241 of North Liberty joined the troop bringing the total membership number to
20. The adult leadership committee has 13 members. Ten Boy Scouts served as Indiana Senate pages for Senator Betty Lawson for a day in March. On April 13, the scouts and family members joined together to bag 10,000 trees for an environmental project. This certainly was a tree-mendous job for all. Now the troop is working on their scout-o-rama exhibit for the annual show to be held in May at Webster School in Plymouth. Community Club Enjoys Breakfast Meeting Friday The GFWC Walkerton Woman's Community Gub met for breakfast at Al’s Diner at Koontz Lake on Friday, April 19. 31 members and two guests enjoyed their gettogether. Ruth Ullery and Vi Masterman had brightened up the tables with vases of spring flowers and the room looked very fresh and pretty. President Barbara Simpson gave the devotions, "When 1 get around to it.’’ After breakfast the meeting was resumed. It was announced that Sunshine chairman, Josephine Nowakowski, who had recently undergone knee surgery, is now back home. Birthday ladies were Mary Steinhart and Frieda Meyer. Vice president Carol Knop gave details of the June 21 tour to Michigan's wine country. Reservations should be made and money turned in to Carol before May 22. Lucille Schuster informed the group that if they were having water in their basement or knew someone who was, to call her at 586-2425 and it would be reported to the agency concerned with the problem and who would help them. The president announced that Shirley (Mrs. Daniel) Awald is replacing Carol Knop as public affairs chairman. Games of wit were distributed to the ladies and were thoroughly enjoyed. The winner of the first game was Nadine Keiper, the second was Dorothea Brenner and
the third had two winners, Marge Diebold, one of the guests, and Shirley Awald. Nadine Keiper won the prize for having the most grandchildren. It was reported that member Cara Dixon is home recovering from a recent fall; that Lucille Dipert's brother died a few days earlier, and that Alice Gedgoud, a friend of many of the members, had lost her son. Cards of sympathy will be sent to each. The meeting ended with an amusing poem about a woman who sees herself as being young; she just has an old "container.” The May 17 meeting will be at the Community Building and will be the last session until September.
