Recycling Days April 18 And 19 In North Liberty Recycling days are set for Thursday, April 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, April 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the North Liberty Community Center. Materials which can be recycled at this time are: aluminum cans, scraped aluminum (rinsed out and smashed), newspapers (in paper bags), corrugated cardboard (staples removed and folded down flat), brown, clear and green glass jars and bottles (unbroken, rinsed out, caps removed), plastic milk jugs, one and two liter plastic bottles (rinsed out, smashed, caps and sealing rings removed). No magazines or phone books. To have effective recycling program we need to follow these guidelines listed above. Help yourself, help your family, help the community and help the environment. Start recycling today! Ist Annual All-Star Game Sat., April 20 Attention all you John Glenn Falcon basketball fans! Five seniors have been invited to participate in the first annual Marshall County All-Stars Basketball Game, to be held on Saturday, April 20, at the Plymouth High School. Girls game begins at 6:30 p.m. The games are open to seniors only, this will allow each of the players one last chance to play basketball in front of the hometown crowd. School representing the east team are: Plymouth, Argos, Bremen and Tritan. West team schools include: LaVille, Glenn, Culver, Culver Academies and Oregon-Davis. Representing John Glenn will be coach Larry Rans, players: John Johnson, Dan Huizenga, Jim Seiders, Rick O’Connor and Kevin Winger. Come and enjoy the games, tickets are on sale at John Glenn High School. WALKERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL P.T.A. TO ELECT OFFICERS The Walkerton Elementary P.T.A. will meet on Thursday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m. We will have the results of the ballot vote for our election of 1991-92 officers. P.T.A. members be sure to vote! You may either attend the meeting and cast your ballot that night of turn in your ballot to W.E.S. by Monday, April 15. ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP MEETING On Tuesday, April 30, a video “Caring For The Caretaker,” will be shown at our Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting. Coping techniques, financial and legal matters, available services and resources will be presented. The job of caring for a loved one with alzheimer's is never easy. A good description was given in a recent alzheimer’s newsletter: A care givers hours are indefinite, variable and never 8:00-5:00, the salary is non-negotiable. Please allow yourself time to join us as we support one another. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. in the dining room of Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton. Refreshment and a time of sharing will follow. ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the North Liberty Cemetery Association will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:00 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Building. DINNER MEETING The Koontz Lake Conservation Club will meet Saturday evening for a pot luck dinner at the clubhouse. Linda Holland, resource teacher at Walkerton Elementary School and Judith Rush, food services director at St. Patrick School. Dooms and Urgonski each receive trophies and gold award pins. These commemorative pins are also given to the next five ranking finalists: Christy Schmeltz, Cassie Walter, Michael Skorup, Joshua Burkholder and Terence Hesters. Dooms and Urgonski's names will be engraved on Saint Patrick’s permanent trophy which provides space for St. Patrick’s Civic Oration Contest winners for five years. During the announcement of the winners, judges commended the students for their exceptional work.
SPRING CLEAN-UP The Town of Walkerton will be doing its annual spring gjpk-up of old fiirniture and appliances May 6th through May 10th. Items must be placed by the curb. Construction materials and tree branches are not included, and will not be picked up. 2ta25 NOTICE If a tornado is sighted in the Walkerton area the siren will be blown for one (1) minute, off one (1) minute, on one (1) minute, off one (1) minute and on one (1) minute. This will be repeated every hour until the all clear is given. There will be no all clear blown. ATTENTION KOONTZ LAKE HOMEOWNERS Attention to all home owners at Koontz Lake who are having water problems in your basement since the new dam was put in. The State has offered to send a representative to meet with us to discuss the dispersement water in the lake to avoid this flooding problem. PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring an "all you can eat" Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Sunday, April 21. from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The cost is $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for 12 and under and pre-school is free. The breakfast is to be held in the St. Patrick's School Hall. This is the last Pancake Breakfast until next fall, so come and enjoy good food and good company. The St. Pat’s Athletic Dept, will be holding a Bake Sale at the same time. Two Area Students Are Honored As National Leaders Ingrid Boise and Will Hostrawser were among twenty-eight Bethel students who were recognized this year for their academic, social and leadership potential by the editors of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. They were nominated on the basis of their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. Ingrid is the daughter of Mary Boise and the late Alvin Boise. She is majoring in communications with a minor in mass media and also plays on the Bethel volleyball team. Will, the son of John and Betty Hostrawser, is a junior majoring in business education with a minor in economics. He is a catcher and co-captain of the Bethel baseball team. 911 NOT FULLY IMPLEMENTED The 911 emergency number has not been fully implemented in Walkerton. SPELLING BEE AT OREGON-DAVIS TODAY The Starke County Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, April 18, at Oregon-Davis Elementary School, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The following students will represent Oregon-Davis as follows: Grade Two: Lianna Scholz, Jared Pearish.
