NORTH LIBERTY NEWS By Gladys Sheneman Congratulations goes to Larmon and Peggy Kaser who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at the Church of Christ family center. Congratulations also goes to Marion and Dorothy Wolff, of Hamilton Grove, who will be celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary on April 13th. Kathryn Feece recently returned from spending the winter with her daughter, Bonnie Decker and family, in Wenatchee, Washington. Glen Shupert, of Quinn Road, was very pleasantly surprised on Palm Sunday when he arrived at the Community Building and found a large group of relatives and friends had gathered to help him celebrate his 80th birthday. A delicious luncheon was enjoyed by all with guests coming from Michigan. Bluffton, Bremen, Plymouth and North Liberty. Potato Creek State Park was a busy place over the weekend with 116 campers enjoying the beautiful weather and the beginning of the camping season. Also many brought their bicycles and many walked the trails, while others brought their boats and went fishing. Dinner guests of Ed and Helen Podgodzinski, on Saturday were Leo and Charlotte Podgodzinski, Connie Nestle and daughter, Elizabeth, Jim and Gloria and daughter, Joy. Gladys Sheneman called in the afternoon as Helen had the misfortune of breaking a rib this past week so she has to take it easy. Glen Cox and family, of New Brunswick, Canada, are here visiting his father, Dale Cox and family, on New Road. Please remember Forest Boone as he is very ill in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Also Howard Loucks needs our prayers as he is taking therapy and they have just returned home from Florida. Barry Hensley is visiting his father, Charles, and family this week. Our sympathy goes to the Hensley family in the loss of Hubert. Bob and Pauline Powers and Gladys Sheneman enjoyed dinner together in Niles, Michigan, on Sunday and saw all the beautiful Easter decorations and colored lights. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Kronk accompanied Mr. and Mrs. George Henry to Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, where they spent the day with Rev. Brian Henry and family. They also attended the morning worship service and had the privilege of hearing Brian give the morning message. Arlu Smith returned home Thursday from Avon Park, Fla., where she had spent the winter. On Saturday, her children, Arden and Rhonda Smith, Sara, Steven, and Scott, of Lowell, and her daughter, Ralu Lantz, of Muncie, came to help her celebrate her birthday. She enjoyed dinner on Sunday at the Olive Garden Restaurant. When she returned home John and Alice Weiss, of Bremen, Bill and Elsie Bacewic, of Walkerton, arrived with homemade ice cream and birthday cake. Lloyd and Dorothy Miller just returned home from Phoenix, Ariz., where they visited their son, Kevin and family the past two months. While there. Grant and Bill Poinyter, of Kokomo and Jerry and Marilyn Willoughby, of South Bend and their son, Kurt and friend Cindy, of Indianapolis, all came for a short visit. About 150 neighbors and friends met at Pine Creek Church on Tuesday noon where all enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner prepared by the ladies of the church. The tables were beautifully decorated with yellow daffodils, by Arlene Cohee and Claire Hartsough. First time visitors was
Della Scott, of North Liberty and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stoneburner, of Tyner. Anniversaries being celebrated in April were Charles and Harriett Kaser (64 yrs.), Floyd and Millie Fleck of LaPaz (47 years) and Ed and Helen Podgodzinski of Walkerton (53 years). Several were having birthdays. Please remember Russell Knepp as he isn’t good and Keith Clark needs our prayers also. We lost M.D. Whitmer, who was always at our dinners. Blanche Truax was in charge of the program and she had their pastor, Ken Elmore of the Pine Creek Church and his wife, Carolyn, to entertain and they are very talented and all enjoyed their playing the piano, guitar and singing. Harold Roush of Plymouth, is in charge of the program the first Tuesday in May. Wiolet Wolfe, Maxine Worthington and Gladys Sheneman enjoyed dinner together on Wednesday at the Around The Clock Restaurant in LaPorte. From there they went to the Fountain View Nursing home where they entertained the residents, with Gerald Kaufman, of Fish Lake, joining them. Ethel Rauen visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roose and Florence Cummings, in Michigan City, on Sunday afternoon. The North Liberty Volunteer Firemen had a good turn-out for their barbecue chicken on Saturday at the fire station. The weather was ideal. Mable Zehner and Frieda Ross flew home from Florida on Thursday after spending some time there visiting friends and relatives. HUBERT T. HENSLEY, SR. Hubert Thurman Hensley, Sr., 67, of 3801 Williamsburg Road, Richmond, Virginia, passed away at 8:00 p.m., on Wed., April 3, at the Medical College Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. He was bom on March 2, 1924, in Missouri to Charles W. and Lucille (Hubbard) Hensley. He retired from Wells Aluminum, North Liberty. His wife, the former Margaret E. Noens, preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1980. His second wife, Lucille E., survives with three sons, Hubert T., Jr., of Elkhart, Frank, of Farmersburg, and John, of South Bend; three daughters, Betty Jean, of Walkerton; Karen of Arizona and Linda, of Elkhart; four step-children, Robert Wray, Betty O'Neil, Kevin Pennington and Jo Ann Harpe, of Virginia; two brothers, Charles E., of North Liberty and Hobert S., his twin, of Walkerton and a sister, Mary Lou Bromeling, of South Bend; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday at the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, with Rev. DO. Van Dyne, officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the C. 8.1. TAMMY FRAZIER Miss Tammy Lynn K. Frazier. 20, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away at 1:27 p.m., on Wed., April 3, at Humana Hospital, in Anchorage. She was bom on July 22, 1970, to Steven and Barbara (Chun) Frazier, in Westminister. Calif., and was a special education student at Hope Cottages, Inc. Surviving are her parents, of Battle Creek, Mich., one brother, Troy, at home; a sister, Tanya, at home and grandparents, Edmund and Mary Ann Chun, of Aiea. Hawaii and Dan and Phyllis Frazier. of Walkerton. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Calvary Baptist

HOPE ZLATOS Hope Zlatos, 69, of West Lafayette, formerly of Walkerton, passed away at 3:45 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, at the Indiana Veterans Home. West Lafayette, after an illness. She was bom on Oct. 19, 1921, in Tyner and lived in West Lafayette since 1984, going there from Walkerton. As Hope McKesson she married William F. Zlatos, on Nov. 23, 1949, in Cicero, 111., he preceded her in death on June 22, 1988. She retired from United Telephone Co., as an operator. Surviving are a daughter, Julie Zlatos, of Louisville, KY; three sons, William F. Jr., of Pittsburgh, Steven E., of Indianapolis and Michael D., of Terre Haute; three grandchildren and two brothers, Dwight McKesson and Leon McKesson, both of Walkerton. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Anthony Letko, officiating. Burial was in Tyner Cemetery. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 189, Better Homes and Garden Club and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Women's Club.
