JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES Regular Seaaton CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The Board of School Trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation met in regular session on March 26. at 7:30 p.m. in the library at John Glenn High School. Board members present included Nilas Miller. Mary Kay Stedman. Don Ludwig. Jean Ann Beem. Dave Hostetler and Dan Patrick. Gene Knowlton was absent during the evening s meeting. The board and 24 observers began the meeting with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES Following discussion, a motion was made by Jean Ann Beem and seconded by Dave Hostetler to approve the Marach 12 regular session minutes as corrected. That correction included changing the name of "Tom Leffert" to "Jim Leffert." The vote was six/zero. APPROVAL OF CLAIMS 451 - 538 A motion was made by Don Ludwig and seconded by Dave Hostetler to approve claims number 451 through 538. The vote was six/zero. PATRON RESPONSE Dave Hostetler issued a brief statement concerning his position with the middle school project and the concern of the taxpayers. Mr. Hostetler thanked taxpayers for their voice through the petition process and during communications to board members. Mr.

Hosterler noted that while he supported the needs of a new middle school, that he personally would not be able to support such if finances were to continue in such a negative direction to place severe burdens on local taxpayers. Patron Ben Smith encouraged the board to go look at the renovation project at the old Lakeville School building. He noted that that building was updated to where it was a very serviceable building at a cost of approximately $1,000,000. Board president Nilas Miller indicated that the board would take that information under consideration. RECOGNITIONS 1. Building principals. Mike Shuler, JGHS principal, announced that the 1990 JGHS fine arts publication "Aerial" has been awarded first place in the Ball State University creative writing competition. Members of the Aerial staff will receive the award during presentation ceremonies at Ball State on April 6. Mr. Shuler proudly displayed the 1991 Aerial which is now available for $3.00 at the school and noted that the current issue is bigger and better than ever. He commended students, teachers, the 1990 and 1991 "Aerial’’ staff and faculty advisor, Paul Hernandez, for their outstanding accomplishments. NLES principal Brent Kaufman congratulated Lindsay O'Connor, Gail Ferency and Ben Long for their science fair entries at the Regional Science Fair at Notre Dame where they received a second and two first places. Notification has been received from the North Central Assoc, of Colleges and Schools that NLES has been accredited without warning. The commission met in Chicago earlier this month and reviewed the school's accreditation status. Marilyn Lightfoot, principal at WES, recognized the Women of the Moose Copimittee for their donation of SSO to the WES library. Mrs. Lightfoot thanked Brenda Dyniewski for organizing and conducting the WES Science Fair and noted that there were 131 entries. The Regional Science fair was held at Notre Dame during spring break. received a second place and Keanon Giese and Steve Goss, sixth graders, won third place in their division. 265 WES students read approximately 215,000 pages in the Pizza Hut Book It program. Pizza Hut will donate 38 large pan pizzas on March 29 to celebrate the success of these sudents. A motion was made by Don Ludwig to accept the SSO donation to WES library from the Women of the Moose Library Committee. The motion was seconded by Jean Ann Beem. The vote was six/zero. OLD BUSINESS 1. JGHS honor roll system. Dan Patrick asked assistant principal Dolores Mueller to address the issue as to why an A + was not recognized on the honor roll system and why the committee has selected the system they had selected. Dolores Mueller cited several examples to support the system that was selected and recommended by the committee. Mr. Patrick complimented Miss Mueller and the work that the committee had done and accepted those answers. NEW BUSINESS

1. Request for overnight stay of Urey chess team state finalists. A motion was made by Jean Ann Beem and seconded by Dave Hostetler to approve an overnight stay of the Urey chess team to attend the state finals competition in Terre Haute. The motion was approved by a vote of six/zero. 2. Superintendent’s report. a. Capital projects plan. Superintendent Barb Murray noted that the Capital Projects plan was continuing and that bids would be advertised this week. b. School insurance. Dr. Murray also noted that insurance specifications were to be completed as soon as possible and at that point the bidding process would be initiated for the school insurance. c. School van. Dr. Murray noted that the school van had been delivered and was in service at this time and that she was to receive lettering for the van at a later time. d. Other. 1.
