JOHN SOKOL John Sokol, 79, of 29505 Osborne Road, North Liberty, passed away •t 11:02 a.m., on Tuesday, March 26, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. He was born on August 15, 1911, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. He married Helen Ramenda, on Feb. 9. 1935, in South Bend, who survives. He retired from the Torrington Co. Also surviving are two daugh-
ters, Margaret Zakowski, of South Bend and Susan Bradford, of Walkerton; a son, Thomas, of Big Lake, Alaska; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Pacay, of South Bend and Irene Fershin, of Santa Ana, Calif, and three brothers, Elmer Sokol, of South Bend, Alex Sokol, of Indianapolis and Carl Benko, of Flint, Michigan. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Zahoran Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association. MARY 0. GARNER Mrs. Mary 0. (McEndarfer) Garner, 78, of Redwood Mobile Home Park, Westville and formerly of Walkerton, passed away on Monday, March 25, at Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka, following a long illness. She was born on August 22, 1912, in Walkerton, to William and Cora Etta (McClain) Norton and lived in Westville 15 years, coming from LaCrosse. On April 4, 1969 she married Virgil Lee Garner, in South Bend, who preceded her in death on August 19, 1981. Surviving are five daughters, Gertrude Poort, of Azle, Texas, Joyce Smith and Marydine McEndarfer, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Betty Close, of Osceola and Diann Schaefer, of Mishawaka; eight sons. Vestal Jr., of Bandon, Oregon, Clyde, of Superior, Ariz., Gerald, of Tuhunga, Calif., Thomas, of Dumont, lowa, Alan, of North Liberty, Larry, of Paw Paw, Mich, and Ronald and Donald, both of Columbus, Tenn.; 47 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one sister, Vera Amor, of Walkerton. Two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. at Kindgford Heights Wesleyan Church, with Rev. William C. Babb, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. The Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingsford Heights Wesleyan Church.
