SENIOR CITIZENS BOWLING NEWS Although the March snow storm paralized much of the local traveling, and several Seniors outside the immediate area were unable to attend, there was a fair number bowling again this week. Those that did make it, really came to bowl as many increased their averages by a pin or two! The high scratch game for the ladies was Mildred McKesson’s 182, followed by Merle Bruesch’s 162 and Norine Divine’s 152 games. High handicap game was McKesson’s 236. June Lind's 225 and Gertrude Brehm's 215 placed first and third, respectively. High series total went to McKesson, who posted a 468 total, with Bruesch’s 467 and Divine’s 420 rounding out the placements. The ladies were really making the pins fly, with that close competition! The gents, similarly, had a good competitive day! Marion Anderson, one of our illustrious octogenarians, had an outstanding day! His high scratch game of 215 led the group. Harold Schweder followed with a 209, and Mel Divine was close with a 197 game. Anderson's 251 high handicap game was well above Jim Martin’s 232 that just topped Divine’s 230 game. There was a two-way tie of 579 sot top high series total. Anderson and Schweder both were in good form and put on a bit of a clinic ol how to! Divine’s 549 was second and the only other series that broke the 500 mark. At the next bowling session, the Seniors will decide when to end their season. With better weather, it is hoped that all the bowlers car be out and participate in the planning and decision making foi the season's end, and, if desired the start of the season next fall. The Senior bowlers, looking forward to the approaching springtime activities, voted to make Wednesday, April 10 their last session. Sickness and weather has depleted the number of bowlers the past couple of sessions, but not the enthusiasm! The scores were not as high as usual, but everyone enjoyed the exercise and competition. The ladies high scratch game was Vollie Verkinder’s 145, followed by Mildred McKesson’s 134 and Liz Moreau's 132. High handicap game was Verkinder’s 214. Moreau’s 197 just topped Pearl McConnell’s 192 game, placing second and third in that category. The high series total was Verkinder's 374, with McKesson’s 369 and Moreau’s 363 not far behind. While the scores are low, the competition is still intense! The gents also were a bit down as far as scores were concerned. High scratch game was Harold Schweder's 189, followed by Roman Brehm’s 186 and Jack Grimmett’s 182 scores. Brehm’s high handicap game of 221 topped Joe Tebich’s 217 and Grimmett's 212 games. High series total was Grimmett’s 540, followed by Schweder's 524 and Marion Anderson’s 484. With just three more sessions, the competition continues to be close! For those returning from your winter hiatus, there’s still room for you to bowl and time to renew your contacts on Wednesday afternoons. The seniors will be glad to see you and bowl a game or two to round out your year!
